My 27 mth old watches about 1-2 hrs of tv everday. I just wanted to know how much TV do you let your toddlers watch? He did not watch any tv until he was 2 yrs old but now he likes shows like mickey mouse, dora, handy manny. Is 1-2hrs of TV watching too much for a 27mth old?

Thanks!

I just replied to your other post but here I am again...! Hope I'm being helpful.

As far as watching too much TV, use your best judgement. Obviously, sticking the kids in front of the TV is much easier when you've got a million things to do...but keep it to a minimum. I'd personally say that 1-2 hrs. is okay, but spread it out. One show at a time, maybe one in the afternoon and one in the evening. I'd shy away from TV in the morning, just because I've noticed it brings on the lazy bones early in the day! Use the TV as a time to kind of slow down and relax....

In regards to your other post, I really think that making TV more of a treat rather then a regular, everyday thing would help your son. If he's ignoring you the whole day and is dying to watch a show, don't let him. He'll learn quickly. Also, and cater it to you, but I'm a fan of charts. :D

Run to the craft store and get a small poster board and make a couple of things he's expected to do. Yes, he's young and he may not understand it all from the beginning but he'll learn! You want him to help pick up his toys? Write it on the chart and add a picture....when he does it, take him to the chart and have him put up a picture of Dora next to the chart. Then let him watch a show! Reward him for listening!!!

I think tv only becomes a problem when a parent starts to use it as a baby-sitter. There are so many toddler friendly shows out there right now that I don't mind my little one watching but only in moderation. I avoid tv in the evening..for me the evening is for quiet play and story time. Also monitor what your little one watches. Disney Playhouse, Nick Jr and CBeebies(here in the UK) all offer entertaining and educational programs.

Also make sure your little one has plenty of play time. You don't want him to turn into a little couch potato. :jester:

Take care!

I am a stay at home mom to a 9 month old daughter and we watch the same shows in the morning. She likes to sit on my lap in the morning when she is waking up and I turn on those same shows and I will eat a bowl a cereal and I really don't see a big deal with it, unless you would stick DVD's in all day, or one after another for it to babysit them, like others have stated. Jut don't overdo the cartoons, or make a certain time frame they have to watch them. Like, once Handy Manny is over, it is time to get bathed and dressed for the day.
