I was talking to my friend today about this Hair Mane & Tail shampoo that i had heard about, and he told me that he knew someone who took silica as a supplement for healthy hair, (skin and nails too i think). Supposedly you get it at the healthstore,, it comes in a bottle, tastes pretty gross, but does wonders. Has anybody ever heard of this before, or is it nonsense? Grateful for some feedback!

You could take the herb Horsetail. It has silica in it and can be taken in capsule form.

This is what I took, the GNC brand capsules. They're big green capsules - not to be taken on an empty stomach! I took one per day along with biotin (2500mcg). This combo didn't do much for my hair, but my nails were stronger and grew very fast. I probably didn't give it enough time. I went through only a bottle of each. I've read that it can take a few months to really see a difference in growth and condition. I'm not sure why I stop taking them - I think it was because I began taking birth control pills, and didn't want to take so many pills every day. I'm giving biotin another try. It's easier to find than silica, costs a lot less, and people seem to have better results with it.

I take Silicea every day. I take it for my nails. I started using it three years ago and I went from having my nails tear, rip, bend back and be very painful, to having strong nails and no problems whatsoever. It is made by HYLAND'S Homeopathic and at the bottom is says P&S Laboratories Los Angeles, CA 90061. So the one I have I purchased at the local healthfood store and it says in red letters "Silicea 6X and in 1000 1 Gram Tablets. I place 3 or more under my tongue letting them melt. I found out the hard way what happens if I stop taking them for about 2 months: my nails weaken and tear again. I also have severe daily migraines and am currently looking to see if there is a connection between a silica defiency and migraines. If anyone is a chronic migraine suffer and also has a silica deficiency, let me know.

Take Biosil, a highly absorbable, liquid-form of silica.

You can find it online under many vitamin catalog retailers.

Seems to help my joints. The verdict is still out as to how it affects my hair/skin/nails.
