View Full Version : Going off Trileptal

All,

I was using Carbatrol for a long time, had a few breakthroughs, went on Trileptal, had a few more breakthroughts, and finally went on Keppra. Since going on Keppra everything has been great...

Anyway, the Neuro said that I should begin to slowly go off of Trileptal so that I'm only taking Keppra. I didn't get any more details on this process, so I was wondering if anyone had done this???

How long did it take?

What, if any, were the side-effects of going off (I've been on Teg. for around 4 years)?

What was the process (i.e., one pill for a week down to 1/2 pill down to 0 pill)???

Any info would be helpful...

Best,

AJR

Hi - we were suggested taking the trileptal down 1/2 pill every two weeks in order to avoid withdrawal......not sure what the symptoms could be if you don't but suggest your pharmacy would be up-to-date. They are always a huge resource for us............Paula

Your doctor should tell you how to do it. Mine always does. It very well could be that the two combined are what is doing the trick for you. I am just starting the Trileptal (sp?) and was, and am, still on Neurontin. My doc is going to take me off of Neurontin if the Trileptal seems to be doing the trick but he said that it could be the two together that is doing it. We will see but I would ask your doctor how to do it. Maybe the doc doesn't want you to do it just yet if he/she didn't give you the instructions yet.

Let us know.

God Bless,
KittyMom
