I AM THE GRANDMOTHER OF AN 8 YR. OLD THAT HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED THIS PAST WEEK WITH E. HE HAS BEEN ON MEDICATION FOR ADHD FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND ALWAYS HAD PROBLEMS WITH FOCUSING. SINCE PEDDY WAS A BABY HE ALWAYS QUIVERED HIS LIPS WHEN HE WAS UPSET, ANGRY OR DISCIPLINED. IT WAS GETTING WORSE WITH TIME, HE WAS NOT RESTING WELL AT NIGHT AND SEVERAL MORNINGS WOKE UP WITH HIS PJS SOILED.
MY DAUGTHER HAS BEEN CALLED TO SCHOOL SEVERAL TIMES IN THE LAST PAST MONTHS AFTER THE TEACHER COMPLAINED THAT PEDDY WAS OUT OF CONTROL. HE WAS NON RESPONSIVE TO ANY QUESTIONS, EVEN WHEN THEY ASKED HIM HIS LAST NAME HE DN'T KNOW. HE BEGAN TO LOOSE CONTROL OF HIS BODILY FUNCTIONS. THE TEACHER THOUGHT IT WAS THE CONCERTA (ADHD) MEDS THAT WAS CAUSING THIS. LAST WEEK WHEN SHE WAS CALLED TO PICK HIM UP SHE TOOK HIM DIRECTLY TO THEIR FAMILY DOCTOR. THE DOCTOR TOLD HER THAT HIS SYMTOMS WERE THOSE OF PETI MAL SEIZURES. AN EEG WAS ORDERED AND THURSDAY OF LAST WEEK PEEDY WAS DIANOGSED WITH EPILESY.MEDS PRESCRISPED WERE DILANTAN AND PHENABARBITOL UNTIL HE SEES THE PEDIATRIC NEUR.
TUESDAY OCT. 21.
NO FAMILY HISTORY OF SEIZURES IN OUR FAMILY, HE HAS NEVER HAD ANY TYPE OF HEAD TRAUMA. THE ONLY TIME HE WAS HOSPITALIZED WITH SOMETHING SERIOUS WAS WHEN HE HAD FOOD POISIONING (SAMELLA) HE WAS 2 YRS. AT THE TIME AND WAS VERY ILL. CAN THIS HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH E????
WE NEED AS MUCH HELP WITH UNDERSTANDING E AS POSSIBLE.
PLEASE REPLY!!
I WILL BE BACK!!!

That poor child! My heart goes out to you and your family. May God Bless you all but most of all your grandson.
You have come to the right place. There is a ton of information on "E" here and just about all aspects too. There are several Moms' on here with children that have "E". I have it myself so I can give you information on what I go thru. I don't have peti mal seizures (well, at least I don't think I do. I am looking inot it) but I do have Partial Complex Seizures and Gran Mal. I will do ANYTHING I can to help the best way I can.
It is midnight here and I am falling asleep sitting here but I didn't want your post to go unanswered and for you to see that in the morning. I will write more on this in the morning but I think you will have a dozen replies by the time I am able to get on here again. You have come to the right place. Tell his Mom to come on here also if you find this to be what you are looking for.
God Bless and I will write more in the morning; sorry,
KittyMom

You will have plenty of hard times to come but we all can help you thru all of that. We are here for you when you are busting at the seams excited and when you are crying rivers of tears. Lets not forget all the times in between. I am glad he is seeing the doctor. Please let me know how it goes!! I would love to hear from you again. You were all I could think about this morning...well, you and my coffee...ha ha. I told my kids the story shortened and they were all saying that they will pray for him tonight. My youngest is a boy and he is 8 so they all could see where this would be painful to the heart.
God Bless you and your family sweetie. Please let me know as your family (and you) will be in my prayers.
God Bless,
KittyMom

Hi - I am the mom to Rebecca who is 18 and seizures daily......all kinds, some which are life threatening. So, my advice to you is that knowledge is power.....keep lots of notes with dates on them. Your family sounds like good advocates, so those skills will be a great asset. Love will keep it all together and keep you going..........till next time.........loving life and all the positives amongst the hurdles...........Paula

Thanks Kitty and Rebecca's Mom,
I was at my wits end and crying until I found you.
This is what our family needs right now, a support group that is willing to help us.
Kitty,
I know your son can really relate to Peddy's situation (nickmame, his real name is Reese)
It seems as though he has already been singled out as a problem child with adhd, now "E" is taking over his life. We are ready for the battle and we know there will good days and bad.
What questions should we be prepared to answer when we see the dr?
What questions should we ask?
He has only had an eeg, should we ask for more test?
Thanks again,
Nanner

Hello dear,
You should have something written down as to what happens, when these episodes happen, how long, and any unusual activity. I know this may sound harsh but I don't think that ADHD is an issue. Some children experience episodes like this due to the feelings they have after their episodes...i.e. tired (now trying to stay awake), dizzy and confused, gaps in time that they can't account for nor know even remotly WHY it happened...things as such. My son is 8 and if he doesn't know something that he feels he should know or messes up on something he did know (in school or at home) he will get a little hyper and do silly things to try and divert some attention off of him and his mistake. Do you think that could be what is happening?? Just a thought. I have seen it before but each child is individual and each case different.
The questions you should ask:
If they tell you they think it is seizures then ask for a Pediatric Neurologist. If one is not availible then go with the regular Neuro.
Ask what you should do for him in school now and to give you something to give to the staff (especially his teacher) at the school to let them know that this may be his situation so they will be more tollerant with him.
I am not sure what else you should ask them but I will be praying for you. Please keep in touch and tell your daughter to join the board. Well, that is if she has enough time. I have 3 kids so getting on here sometimes is a mirical.
God Bless you and hope to hear from you soon,
KittyMom
