amydianne1 10-14-2003, 04:46 PM Hello....
What kind of medicine are you taking? You'll have to forgive me, I have been on several different meds this year, but I THINK it was Trileptal that I was on that I had that same taste, it was pretty much all the time!
I was also on Dilantin and then on Topamax for quite some time, so it MIGHT have been one of those, but I'm thinking it was the Trileptal.
Hope that helps some!
Amy

lildoll 10-15-2003, 12:27 AM Hi Amy,
Thanks for the reply. I have never taken Trileptal or Topamex. I have been on Dilatin for 24 years and phenobartial 21 years. Never had a side effect like this. Do you think a side effect could start now? I know your not a doctor or maybe you are (haha) just asking your opinion. I hate going to the doctor. Thanks again.

briteyes 10-15-2003, 01:02 AM Hi Yolanda,
I was just showing my sister this thread in hopes that she might be interested in getting on here for some moral support. Ofcourse, she isn't as gutsy as I am and is very nervous about others knowing about her E. But she was surprised to see that someone else is also getting the "battery" taste. She thought she was nuts or something and never wanted to tell anyone about it. Anyway, she also is on Dylantin and Pnenabarbitol, and says that the taste is her sign that she is going to have "one of those days" and knows not to leave the house. Once the slight electric shock feeling hits she knows she is in for a long and tiring day.
Hi when I saw your post I thought to myself I know what she's talking about. I get a taste in my mouth that signals to me that i'm going to have a seizure. I discribed the taste to my husband as a rusty taste like metal but I have never tasted a battery but I think I might be pretty close. I hope this helps.
Bless you guys
Yolo
LisaGuthrie 10-15-2003, 04:45 AM Hi,
I don't have E my children do... But, there have been times that I have had that taste.
For me it's a change in diet. Something that I've eaten.
It could be a change in your aura, change in diet. Have you started taken anything else. Vitemans? Minerals? Maybe a different bottled water?
Just something to think about.
Good luck figuring it out.

Branch 10-16-2003, 04:16 PM I actually used to get that battery taste in my mouth too.. and then I told my doc about it and he recommended that I get the VNS. He said that if the VNS proved to work well, that I might be able to cut back on my meds which I was happy to hear about. I got the VNS implanted a couple of years ago. I was one of the few that was getting it so early in it's stages. It has worked very well for me though. It somewhat controls my seizures now, which were pretty bad before (5-10/day). Just thought I would let you guys know!
* Sorry I had to edit this. I was in a rush when I wrote this yesterday. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hi,
Didn't catch your name. But could you please tell me what VNS is? TY.
YoYo
lady_grey 10-20-2003, 05:25 PM VNS is the Vagus Nerve Stimulator. Its like a pace maker for your brain, only the great thing is no part of it actually touches your brain. Its an implant, with part of it going in your chest near your armpit and then a lead wire that goes up your vagus nerve in your neck. The implant sends an impulse up the wire, and the wire puts it on the Vagus Nerve to send ot hte brain. It prevents and controls seizures for a lot of people and can also help with posticitals and attention span. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif You can go here www.cyberonics.com (http://www.cyberonics.com) for more info.
