Hi Everyone,
This is my first post here. I was recently sent for a stress echo test because of a high resting heart rate, discovered merely by accident, by placing a relatives pulse-oximeter on my finger to see if it was working properly. I have since been monitoring it myself, either manually or with a blood pressure machine that also does the pulse readings, and it's always above 100 and as high as 127 at rest. I told my family doctor who then checked my pulse rate and did an EKG and prescribed a Stress Echo.
I passed the stress test, EKG, and echocardiogram but my resting heart rate was 115 and it took a while for my heart rate to come down after the treadmill test. The diagnosis was that my hearts electric system is not functioning probably and now I have to be seen by a cardiac specialist that deals with electrophysiology to get proper treatment. Heart is in great shape right now but over time it can lead to heart damage. BP is 120/70 give or take on either number but never high. I am 47, no heart problems, no cholesterol problems, non-smoker. My father had his first heart attack at 54 and died at 67. He had by-pass surgery, a stroke shortly after that, another heart attack at 66 and then died of congestive heart failure a few months after that. Mother has no history of heart problems, only emphysema from smoking and mild congestive heart failure related to her heart working harder to compensate for her bad lungs.
Any ideas what this specialist might have me do?
Thanks,
Jaye
