Hello,

For the past 5 or so years I have experienced a strong cramp/contraction like pain in the rectal area. I have gone to a few different gynos to no avail. The symptoms are worse right before or after a bowel movement. Recently, I had a really scary episode and I went to the ER. The wait for a doctor was so long, that eventually, I defecated and the symptoms lessened. I thought I only had the cramps around my cycle, but I have since determined this to not be true, and they occur whenever. As of late, the cramps have been coming at night and I will feel the contractions several times through out the day. I have a very regular menstrual cycle, I rarely get menstrual cramps bad enough for medicine, and my flow is medium for no more than 3 days. I eat a relatively healthy and plant based diet and I have 2 - 3 regular bowel movements per day. One doctor suggested that since I have a retroverted uterus, when my anal cavity is full of matter, it taps against my uterus causing the contraction/cramp. However, my most recent visit to a new gynecologist told me my uterus is not tilted. I am going to make an appt with a gastroenterologist soon, but I wanted to post here first to see if anyone else has ever experienced the same issues and can offer some suggestions.

Thank you.

I thought about that, but just in case it's linked to the Uterus, I posted this in Womens Health. I will post the same question in bowel disorders. Thanks!

Sounds like poss IBS. Bowel Spasms can feel like menstrual cramps. Check out the Irritiable Bowel Forum. Good Luck!
