Back ground info first:
I had knee surgry about 3 months ago and when I was comming out of recovery I started having seizures. I remember them and could talk to the doctor. 3 weeks after the surgry I took some pain meds and after 30 mintues I started having these seizures again. I am 100% awake. My entire body moves, it starts with a feeling in my head that I need to shake my head and progress that way. I had seizures off and on for 2 hours. I was given benadryl and sent home. The next day they started up again. They gave me Valuim at the hospital to knock me out and 20 mintues later I had very very bad seizures. Again I am always awak during this. I was sent home with some ativan and told to follow up with my doctor. I did this and was given the run around with him and a neuro. They did an EEG and I was told it was normal, but during the strobe part of the test I had seizures. I went to see a shrink/allergist, and he told me that it was not all in my head like other doctor had said, and that I had a low threshold ffor seizures and dignosed me with a seizure disorder. He told me not to tak any medication and that he wanted to run a lot of blood work. Well about 2 weeks ago I got the lovely cold going around dallas, and took some nite-quil, and guess what I start having that feeling like I was going to have seizures. I told my doctor about it and he put me on depakote. I have been on depakote since sunday. Yesterday I kept feeling so strange, like I was going to have a seizure and that something was off. WEll I had one seizure at 3 and then had 4 at around 9:30. Before the 9:30 round of seizures I felt really strange. I almost passed out 3 times, had a horrible headache, and could not get my thoughts out clearly. My husband said I had some slurred speach. Well once the seizures started we went to the er. The calmed down and the er did blood work. MY question is does any one have seizures like mine. Where they are completly awake, and aware of everything. Does anyone have seizures after taking medication. I am deperate, please help....

Hi there,
I don't think I've ever been totally aware during a seizure, but loss of consciousness depends on the type of seizure you are having. When I have Simple Partial Seizures I am somewhat aware, and the right side of my body seizes. My Grand Mal seizures leave me totally unconscious during, and for a few hours following them.

As far as medication, prescribed and over the counter.....be very careful! I had a really bad seizure after being prescribed Prozac. I was in the hospital for five days, because I wasn't "coming out of it." The way my Doc explained it was that some meds lower the seizure threshold, by using the same liver enzymes as the anti-seizure meds. It causes problems, and I wouldn't take any chances if I were you.

I hope you get the answers you are looking for. Good luck....I'll be thinking of you. Kathy

My son Jon (14) has just been diagnosed with E. He seems to have different kinds of seizures but sometimes he is aware of what's going on (awake) can here voices but can't quite make out what they are saying and can't respond. The other day he tried talking to me during an episode but only jibberish (couldn't make out anything sounded like another language)came out. He may want to say skateboard and says fridge or something like that. Others he can't recall at all and makes arm or leg movements or moves his head from side to side. We're definitely in a learning cycle here as just when you think you know what kind of seizure it is or what to expect it changes. Good luck to you and you definitely found a very insightful place to find answers to some questions. Hope this answers some - I can't really remmeber the questions http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif.

I'm new to this site,& I'm having a few problems with seizures too.In March I was struck in the head with a cardoor & 3 weeks later I started falling out at work & shaking very viokently.I went to my Dr who ran an MRI,EEG,& the video EEG.He finally sent me to a neuorologist who basiclly told me nothing was wrong & that I needed to see a paychiatrist because all of my tests showed nothing was wrong. In the meantime,I kept falling out with these spells, episodes or whatever you want to call them.Last Wednesday,I went to a different neuo.,but still no answers. She gave me a new med to try,(Trileptal)& is slowly taking me off the Dilantin. This is all so frustrating to me,& I don't know how to cope with this.I need to know why this is happening.Any suggestions on how to get through this everyday?? Any ides are greatly appreciated !! Thanx

ladyraider....I don't know what medicine advice to give you, but you should try to have someone video tape your seizure. This might help the doctors determine what is wrong, what type of seizures you are having, and help them to BELIEVE you! That must be the most frustrating thing!! Lindy
