I was wondering if anyone can tell me about their expeirences with Seasonique? I just went to the gyno today, and I asked her to switch me from Yasmin to Seasonale, and she recommended the new Seasonique. She told me it is a lot like seasonale, but instead of the white pills being inactive, they have a low dose of estrogen. Anyway I was just wanting some feedback from women who have actually tried it.

Thanks!

I was on Seasonale for 6 months and I almost went insane. Like I mean I almost checked myself into a mental hospital because my moods declined so rapidly, I literally thought I was losing my mind. I would cry at any moment for no reason, I felt like the world was going to end, and I felt like I was dying. It was the most horrible experience of my entire life, and after 6 months I decided to quit! Thankfully!

I went back on my old pill that was not causing me to feel that apocalyptic feeling, which was quite literally the most horrible I've ever felt in my life.

What birth control are you currently on that is working for you?

I'm not on any BC. I quit completely last summer when I decided all of the side effects weren't worth it anymore. I couldn't stand it anymore. Now I'm using a combination of FAM and condoms.

I'm on Seasonique because it's A) supposed to help control my ovarian cysts B) Help my Endometriosis and C) Stop my periods for 3 months. OK. I began mid-way through my cycle, so my period was due in 2 weeks and taking the pill stopped my period from coming. Now I'm on week 6 and I'm spotting. I've been cramping since week 2 1/2. My moods are declining. I'm exhausted, cranky, and I have been getting rather volatile mood swings since about week 4. My lower back is also killing me alot, like it does when my period comes. It's causing a resurgance in my migraines, also.

And, curiously, when I called to report all this to my doctor's nurse she told me none of these were side effects of Seasonique. Apparently she can't read the package insert! I would think twice about taking any BC's and weigh the pro's and con's.

I'd still like to here more people on this.

I have been on Seasonale for two years and recently switched to Seasonique. There is no difference between the two except for taking a low dose pill during your period with Seasonique. I happen to love it. However, you should take the pill at roughly the same time. If I am a few hours late more than two days in a row, I start spotting and it won't stop until I stop taking the pill to get my period. I really like that I am in control of when I get my period and I am anemic and it has helped tremendously with my iron levels. I hope this helps.

I've been on Seasonale for a alittle over a year straight, then switched to Depo for 3 months, and then I went back on another of Seasonale's generic "Jolessa" which I'm currently on. I never had any problem with Seasonale. It was just too expensive for me and that's why I switched temporarily. I love it. I think the only side effect I have is hair loss, but I can deal with it. I never had any spotting whatsoever by the way.

I was on YAZ but switched from it because ironically, it gave me PMDD. I was a bipolar miserable depressed psychotic crazy woman on it. It was just awful. However, I did lose weight on YAZ.

I switched to Seasonique. I am going into my 3rd month of it. I feel great on it. My moods are normal, I haven't had ANY break through bleeding and it has pretty much been smooth sailing. I think the reason I am not having problems spotting at all is because I take the pill everyday at the exact same time. I have my cell phone alarm set so that I do not forget.

One thing though is that I have gained some weight, like 5 lbs. However, I seem to be losing those 5 lbs. now. I feel that it is just water weight. I am going to stick it out though because everything else is just perfect about this pill.

Also, Seasonique Lo is scheduled to come out next year or at the end of this year. I believe this will resolve the problem with the water retention as it will only have 2 mg. of estrogen instead of 3mg.

Seasonique Pros:

Normal moods
Period only 4 times a year
No spotting when taken religiously everyday at the same time

Seasonique Cons:

May cause some bloating resulting in weight gain, however I feel that this can be easily managed and will subside in time.

I will be starting my 4th week of Seasonique tomorrow (Sunday). I was put on it b/c I had been spotting daily for 1.5 months. My doc suggested either BCP's or progesterone shots and I chose BCP's (DH and I had been talking about my going on them anyway).

After only 3-days on Seasonique the spotting that I had for the previous month and a half stopped! Brava! I take my pill during the exact same time frame every morning (between 6:45 and 7:15AM) and have had no breakthrough bleeding.

My problems so far are:
1. Breast tenderness (this really kicked in this past week-- I can't even sleep comfortably anymore).
2. Water retention (my rings are snug, my face looks puffy, and the scale has gone up 3 lbs so far).

These two issues are a actually a serious peeve to me b/c I'm such an excerise and health nut. I put in at least 2 hours a day at the gym or on the tennis courts and I eat a very healthy diet. The breats tenderness makes exercise a bit painful and nobody who works out like I do wants to see the scale 'gain' numbers!

I keep reading on-line where articles will say that these sort of side-effects will resolve themselves over time. However, I never hear real people (like on this message board) ever report that these issues resolve.

Any other feedback on this? I keep thinking that maybe when Seasonique Lo is launched it will help with the two issues that I have, but who knows?

Hi, I am on the last week of pills (the yellow ones) for my first pack of seasonique. I have had some lite spotting but nothing major untill last week (my last week of blue pills) when I suddenly got my period. This is a baaaaad one too. Very much like right after I had my daughter. Extreemly heavy and it's STILL going! Not as heavy of course but come on, a 2 week period!? I guess it's worth the trade of not having one for 3 months but I am ready for it to be over. I did get very weepy (and I'm not normally a weepy person) for the first couple of months but that seems to have subsided. They also made me very hungry and I have gained a bit of weight. the hungy feeling has also subsided. This is my first exxperiance with BC so I don't have anything to compare it to but on the whole I was satisfied untill this past week or so. We'll see how this next pack goes. They are a bit cost prohibitive ($149.50 at walmart). On the whole though I really didn't have any complaints untill, like I said, these past 2 weeks. Hope that helps.

Yes, Seasonique definitely made my appetite increase for a while there. That seems to have gone away though finally. I am scheduled to get my first period on Seasonique at the end of June. I will let you know how it goes. Typically they say that women experience a short light period on Seasonique. We shall see. To date I have not spotted once.

I've been on Seasonale/Seasonique for about 2 years now. I've absolutely loved it! The one thing that I wonder about is that my 1st period I had with it and every one there after has been more painful than I remember my periods being. They aren't any heavier (and they aren't any lighter either) but they seem to hurt more. It feels like when I sit down to pee, and I relax my muscles to go, I get pain at that point. I'm not sure what that's about or if it has anything to do with the bc or not. I'm planning on asking my gyno about it this Sept when I go to get my pap. I figure even if it is causing more painful periods, it's a trade off for not having them every month. I really don't mind it. Other than more painful periods, I've had no other side effects.

Hi,

I've been on Seasonale/Seasonique for a year and a half and I think it is the best pill for me. I love only getting my period a few times a year and I've had minimal side effects since my body adjusted to it. This brings up a valid point, with any new medication, especially birth control pills, you have to give your body time to adjust.

With me, it took two full cycles of seasonale to get my body adjusted and for all side effects to go away. As far as side effects, I had some spotting around weeks 4 and 8...when my period would have came on other forms of BC. I also had mood swings and a slightly decreased sexual appitite...both of which have balanced out and even improved in the case of the later.:p

I would especially recommend Seasonique to anyone who has anemia, PCOS, or digestive problems as I suffer from IBS and Anemia...both greatly helped by this pill. Good luck on finding the bc right for you!:)

I love this pill too. I feel that it has taken away my sex drive somewhat and that is frustrating. Other than that Seasonique is wonderful. I will get my first period on Seasonique this week. So we shall see how that goes. i bet it is going to be a light one. Here's hoping. Oh, one other thing, Seasonique is expensive, even with my insurance.

I was on Seasonale for less than 3 months and I suffered from bilateral pulmonary emboli. Ended up in the hospital for 4 days and on blood thinners for over 2 years. Seasonale was my only risk factor.

Update: Well I just had my first period on Seasonique. Although the bleeding only lasted 3 days, the cramps were bad. I had to take advil all 3 days. I dont usually get cramps. I started my new pack of Seasonique. I feel good about it. My appetite is calm again and I lost 5 pounds that I had gained when I started Seasonique. I have absolutely no mood swings on this pill. The best pill for me so far. Hope it continues this way.
