View Full Version : Red wine???

I know everyone is different, but I'm wondering if anyone has found this...

I find that when I drink wine (and especially red wine) regularly, it seems to aid my disgestive system. My gas levels go way down and I tend to be quite regular, with almost no pain. It's frustrating because I'm trying to watch my weight, and wine does not help me there! So I kinda have to choose between my guts and my weight. If I could figure out what it is about the wine that's so helpful, maybe I could find it in some other source that doesn't affect my metabolism...

I have IBS-D and find varying results with wines especially heavy reds. If I have them on an empty stomach I get the same reaction as if I'd drank prune juice! If I have a glass or 2 with a meal - especially one with lots of veggies - I don't have near the same reaction. I've been experimenting with soluable fiber and peppermint tea and am having good results. So red wines with meals with pasta, rice or mashed potatoes should be a fairly safe combination. Of course too many glasses will be a problem!

I have found the same thing. A glass or two of red wine really settles my digestive system. Of course, much more and it makes it worse. Red wine in moderation is good for many things. Enjoy. :)
