I was just curious if it's unusual to not have periods for months and then get one out of the blue? I hadn't had one for several months and then got on. Am I really in menopause then? In those months my hot flashes decreased and then out of the blue I get one period and all the hot flashes are back with night sweats with a vengence. Ugh. I hate it because my moods are strange and here I thought I was almost over it. Any comments?:dizzy:

Technically, you're considered menopausal after you've gone a complete year without a period although I've heard of women going 15 months without getting one and then suddenly bam. At this point, you'd be considered peri-menopausal.
Many women go for quite some time going months without a period, then getting one, then starting the same cycle all over again. My sister is at the stage where she only gets a period about once every 4-5 months now. She is also going through the phase where her hot flashes ease off and then hit again full force.

I had a very similar experience too. My periods had stopped for quite a few months and I was getting really awful hot flushes. I went to see my doctor and she just said 'oh you are in the menopause'
About 4/5mths later I noticed the hot flushes were getting less and I can remember thinking how easy going through the menopause was, when out of the blue I had another period that was extremely light, but was still definately a period. After that the hot flushes came back just as bad as they were before. I never had another period after that, which was about 3yrs ago now.

yep, have to agree, it's not unusual at all. this menopause tricks us all into getting a little complacent, and then throws something else at us - usually a surprise period!! and quite often times it with an occasion where we could really, really do without it, like a wedding, or party, etc. good luck.

Yes it happens. You are not truly in menopause until you have been without a period for one year. You are still perimenopausal. Isnt it great being a woman. lol

i went 7 months without a period. then i started having symptoms of pms. water retention, scalp acne, anxiety and feeling very angry and hostile. i couldn't figure out why the anxiety came out since i am on an anti anxiety med. then the period started. a week later and it's still here. the other symptoms have let up. it sure isn't fun.
