I don't have any personal experience with becoming immune to my meds, but is it possible that your daughter is growing in size and needs a med increase? I'm not sure how they establish medication guidelines, but maybe they go according to size. ???? Kathy

Hi,
I dont know if its an immunity or if its that the body is adjusted to the meds and is overcoming it if that makes sense. Ive had to have my zoloft and xanax increased because they kinda stopped...werent helping like they should have been. I also had to switch seizure meds..was on topamax (BAD BAD MED) to keppra 2000mg which is seeming to work now...ive only been on meds 9 montsh so i dont know. I hope and wish you and your child well.
Hugs.

Hi - unfortunately that was the case with every med my daughter went on - initially they would seem to be helping and then back to square one. The honeymoon period would only last a month or so........we were eventually supported by the docs to removal of almost all meds (base dose of Epival is all she takes) as they recognized none worked. Darn........and so it is...........Paula

How's it going guys? It is possibile to develop an immunity to your meds as I am currently going through the dilema of being immune to my meds. I have been on Epilem for the last 23 years and my body has suddenly decided that it no longer needs the drug and won't absorb it. My neurologist says that this is the reason why I have had some major activity recently considering I am normally pretty much under control. He says that I am currently a ticking time bomb ready to explode and they are racing round trying to find a new med for me. At the moment we are trying Lamictal.
However Mommy4 I agree with the others. I think that maybe because your child is growing the she just needs more medication to cater for her rapid development. This happens with kids who have "E".
Hope this helps Lori

I've heard of this happening. Personally I had trouble getting any kind of control from my AEDs but several people in my support group would complain about this problem.

I had a very similar experience with my meds... I always metabolized them very fast so i would have the same month long honeymoon, then they would just stop working.. my dr's would up the doses, and that would help for a bit, but then the side effects would increase... it was a large reason for me getting the vns.. it has really helped me control my seizures while also cutting back my meds dramatically.. good luck with your daughter, and if you are not happy with you ped. neuro, by all means find a new one.. there are great doctors out there, they're just not always that easy to find.
