You can have whichever you want. I had general anesthesia. I walked out two hours later. I doubt you'll need a pain pump...Lortab was fine for me.

Well, he said I will leave that day, and I will have a pain pump.......I guess what I am asking is what is the pain pump.

For my double bunionectomy I had a local (which lasted the entire day & evening) and "twilight sleep". I was drowsy and in and out-- mostly out-- during the surgery. I also left the hospital within two hours after going back to the recovery room. I didn't have a pain pump (Went home with Tylenol 3; was given Vicodin a few days later when I had some intense pain from swelling putting pressure on nerves. That lasted only a day or two during which time I would have loved to have a pain pump; other than that, I don't think I needed it.) The whole really wasn't too bad and I'm very glad I did it! I hope everything goes well for you.

P.S. A pain pump allows you to adjust the amount of pain reliever going into your system; you decide when you need more. Often it has morphine, so most people do not get to keep it for very long!

Nellie, I think what your doctor is talking about is a non narcotic post operative pain relief pump. It is called an "On Q Painbuster" and it provides a continuous infusion of local anesthetic directly into the surgical site. Your doctor decides how much anesthetic to fill it with but it can be used for up to 5 days!:dizzy: The little catheter goes under the skin and the bulb is attached to an article of clothing for example. You can look it up. Good luck with your surgery! Sophie:angel:
