I haven't been diagnosed with fibro. In fact, my doc thinks I'm fine. So I'm researching my symptoms myself. The latest thing which has been lasting about 5 days is shooting pain in my armpits. It's under both arms, not necessarily at the same time.
Does anyone else have this?

You might ck to see whether you have any general tenderness. Palpate first gently but cover the whole area. Then palpate with deeper pressure if there was no apparent tenderness on the first round. Do both armpits & try to note if there are any differences between the two.

If you do have general tenderness there, or if you notice any swelling, you may want to seek further medical advice.

WT, most women do experience breast changes as they approach perimenopause. Often the tissue amt increases (in early peri), but more importantly, there are subtle hormonally-directed changes occurring beneath the surface. Whether or not this could be contributing to your discomfort, I cannot say. But certainly the breast --> armpit referred pain pathway is quite well established.

A doctor who does not respect your pain & symptoms is not doing his/her job. IMO there is a lot of that sort of "medical care" going on in this country. Expert ignorance camoflaged by tarring the patient as malingering. The attitude: "If I don't know what it is, it must not be anything at all" is awfully presumptive, and not in the least bit scientific.

If you cannot find decent health care, you may find yourself looking at selfcare options, as many of us do. Shooting pain is often neuropathic in origin. A good starting place to learn more about it is the latest book by Jacob Teitelbaum, M.D., Pain Free 1-2-3, which has a fair bit of info on treatment options for different sorts of pain, incl. neuropathic.

Best wishes.

I'm not sure what to tell you, since I haven't experienced armpit pain. But I get pain in weird places, and I've been having a lot of female related problems since my fibro kicked in, so it might be something estrogen related? At any rate, you're having the same issue I am - a crappy doc!

Hello There,

I was diagnosed the fibro 13 years ago...I am 39 years old. I have had swelling and pain under my arms for quite some time. Mine is not caused from my boobs, this is just another symptom. At first it alarmed me because I thought it was limp nodes but it is not. If you do message, as them to work on those areas, you will see how very tight and painful it really is! I actually do myself a lot of the time, I follow the muscle under my arm down my sides and do a little trigger point pushing. This does help a bit but I can see, this symptom sucks! I hope this helps you!
