Hi all!

Over the last 6 months I've been getting yeast infections every month at the same time. I have chucky white discharge (alot) with no other symptoms. I treated it once with OTC 3 day stuff, it cleared it up. However the last couple of times I haven't treated it and it resolved with in a few days. It always happens about 2 weeks before I start my period. I'm 31 years old married with 2 kids. I've had abnormal paps in the past and had the LEEP procedure in 03.

I went to Gyno today for yearly exam. He said it was yeast and gave me a RX for it. However he wants me to be tested for Diabetis (sp) and HIV test. I'm freaking out!! I had a HIV test in 02 and neg. My husband had tested in 04 and neg. We both have genital herpes. Also my husband is not the cleanest person in the world. He goes days without taking showers and we have sex on a daily basis. Wondering if he might be causing this. Other than all this I'm healthy. Anyone have any advice or had this problem before.

TIA

Definitely you should get your husband into the shower daily--his being dirty can make the situation worse. It may not cause the infection in the first place but if he is dirty/sweaty/less clean, it may throw off the pH of your vagina, causing irritation and allowing yeast to flourish. You can also try taking a probiotic daily to decrease the chances of getting an infection. I've had good luck with AZO yeast pills--they sell these in the drugstore near the OTC yeast treatments. If you can't find the AZO yeast, you can also try taking acidophilus capsules daily (but be sure the capsules contain LIVE bacteria). This may help.

Wearing cotton underwear, avoiding douching, not using scented toilet paper or pantyliners or feminine sprays can help prevent them.
