View Full Version : Episodic Graying Vision, good advice needed

Hello, I am new to this board and primarily came here out of a personal medical concern that I have.

Age 21, 123 lbs, 5'7, Female
In December 2006, I had a brief loss of consciousness after standing up from lying down, resulting in a fall and a blow to the head on my daughter's crib (I do not know how hard I hit my head). Only a second before I lost consciousness I had an episode of my vision graying out/going dark in both eyes it appears. No curtains being pulled down, no flashes of light, no zig-zags. Just a sudden darkness appearing, taking over my entire sight. I had no other symptoms preceding the fall. After hitting my head, I had convulsive movements in my shoulders for anywhere between 5-10 seconds, then it stopped. I knew then what had happened.

That is my only episode as of right now where i have actually fallen. I have to note that the change in my vision has been happening episodically for the past year and a half. Both eyes from what I must determine. I just did not think much of it as it never was more than the graying out. (I do wear glasses, R eye vision 20/400, L eye 20/50) Before the fall, I had been having the episodes around 3-5 times a week, not daily but frequent enough to note the incidence of them. It seems that these episodes have increased in frequency since last month. They are now every day, whether from standing from a lying down, sitting position, or from bending over to pick something up. And they always only last several seconds 3-10 seconds in duration. I've done a little reading, it seems that the vision thing could be an optic nerve disorder or some sort. Could this be?

I do not have insurance and will not be getting it anytime soon, but will being seeing a family doctor next month or so when I've money.

I try to keep my diet well-balanced. I often feel fatigued until the late part of the afternoon and it relapses around 10pm. Some days are much better than others. Some days it is constant. I have had a weight loss of about 5 lbs. with a slight increase in appetite, along with the almost constant need of water. Took a home glucose test 12/23-1/1/07 for a week at different times in the day and my blood sugar is good. (Around 90-95 most of the time, even before breakfast). Sitting BP machine at store read average of 115/67.

Thank you for any help that is given,
Elizabeth
