Has anyone with osteoarthritis of the knee been helped by physical therapy??
Would like to hear what others have done for osteoarthritis of the knee that
helped.

jodianne, hi!
I've been told I have osteoarthritis (denial). What I do know is that my muscles in my legs are wasting (atrophy) around the joints (hips, knees, and ankles). My left knee and left ankle is the worst. My knee cap is sitting right on top of the bones (so any kind of movement involving this joint is excruciating). I started watching a TV show called "SIT AND BE FIT" about two months ago. When I started out, I couldn't stand without the use of my hands. Cleaning floors and grocery shopping wasn't a pleasant experience to say the least (I'd like to use local transit all the time, but, well as you may know taxi's become an important means of travel, especially if you're alone).
"SIT AND BE FIT" is a form of physio done from the sitting position (she also does it from the standing position for those of us who are capable; as I did after two months of regular exercise). It's very gentle, but yet an effective tool in the treatment of arthritis. I can stand up now on my own (look ma, no hands :blob_fire ), my balance is much better (my ankles-my left one too-are stronger). I've had all kinds of health benefits from participating with the show. I make sure I participate at least three times a week (for now). As I improve, I hope to bump that up a day at a time.
Here's the best part. It's free and you don't have to leave home. It's available on your local PBS (Public Broadcasting channel) station. In my case (I live in Ontario), it's on WNED, channel 61 (5:30am). That's a New York channel. Everyone has one no matter what state (U.S.A) or province (Canada) you're from. Goodluck.
So, the answer to the question (in my opinion) is yes.
