Can you recommend what I can take to cut the anxiety of all of this. I am on Femhrt and it doesn't seem to help like doc said it would. I don't like it. I try klonopin but wonder if there's something else. Of course I'm anxious to try new stuff because I"m afraid of what I'll feel like, but I need something. I was fine without periods for about 5 months and then BAM a bad period with horrid anxiety and mood swings. Help!

I finally gave up and went on Lexapro. It has done wonders for me. Every morning I'd wake up in tears and just knew that I was dying from something. It was so horrible! Now, I rarely have an attack of this nature, but do suffer higher anxiety around the start of my cycle. I also take Omegas and good multi-vitamins for women.

Good luck!

hey bpblues,

hang in there. i have been in peri since 1999. 2 1/2 years ago i got hit with a bad case of anxiety. i started taking buspar. it is a good anti anxiety drug that is not addictive and has little side effects. then this may the anxiety came back. right before a period. my doc upped the dose and i did well until the end of dec. i had all the symptoms of bad pms. anger, hostility, scalp breakouts and anxiety. i hadn't had a period since the one in june and i thought i was finally in menopause. but no. so now i am on celexa, an antidepressant. i just started it so i don't know if it will help. i also go to the gym, take a good vitamin, flax seed oil ( an omega 3), promensil, and started using progesterone cream. hopefully something will work. keep the faith. this can't last forever.

I have been peri for 2 years now and although I have always been abit anxious, I got really bad a year ago and had to have alot of time off work.

I don't like the thought of taking pills so I decided to take up yoga and meditation, I do it at home and I must say the difference in me has been amazing.

Anxiety is all about relaxing your body and although I still feel the anxiety now and again it isn't nearly as bad.

Oh yeh...I have had where my heart just seems to race. I lay in bed and I feel like my entire body is buzzing and I toss and turn trying to get to sleep. My heart is running overtime and I take deep calming breaths to try and get it to settle down. Anxiety sure sucks big time. Worse thing is I wasn't even feeling anxious to begin with..it just comes on for some unknown reason. I go to bed and it friggin starts...my body tenses up and it does it during the day too. I feel like my stomach gets all in knots, my heart races and I feel sick to my stomach. The other day I am driving to my honey's home to pick him up and I'm listening to a CD and I start welling up with tears. I just start bawling like a baby for no reason at all. Why is it that some of us get hit hard with this crap and others just sail on through like its nothing? Its not fair I tell you...lol

yes. I have had panic disorder for over 30 years. I have been on Paxil for 12. Helped the anxiety so much, but last nite, i had a HUGE panic attack. Hope they don't come back with MENO. I'm 49.

ugh
I thought i was going to faint and throw up at the same time. I was on our front porch last nite in my robe in the moonlight, pacing, heart racing, freezing.
I have had this off and on for almost my entire life. My mom too, and her dad, and my sister and HER SON. IT's definitely heridetary.

Hi BBL

Have you had panic attacks before? I've had them my whole life, but now that i'm 49, I hope they aren't coming back. I've been on anti-depressants for about 15 years now, and for the most part the only one that stopped the Panic was paxil. I am on generic now (paroxitine) and i don't think it's working as well.
I had a hUGE panic attack last night. It started in my stomach, and i felt like i was going to faint and vomit at the same time. I got up, had diarrea, my heart was racing, i was having heart palpatations BAD, (Have had those also for over twenty five years, but i still hate them) I had to sip on some bottled water, then i went out on our front porch in the moonlight, pacing and freezing. I didn't wake my hubby, cos he's grouchy in the night when i wake him up.
Anyway, im sure hoping my anxiety isn't coming back with menopause.
Course, i have had a terribly hectic week. I'm a Realtor, and an interior designer/staging expert, and i've been sooooooooooooooooooooooo busy, it's insane.
I also quit my xanax about five months ago. Maybe i should refill my rx again, i sure could have used it last nite.
oey.

Refill your Xanax! I hate to tell you, but panic attacks, anxiety and heart palps can all get worse during peri, mine did. I don't go anywhere without my Xanax and Tenormin for the palps. Crazy way to live, but what's the alternative? Most of the "natural products" are like taking candy for me. I have had those nights, wide awake, bad palps, diarrhea and pacing the floor trying to figure out if it's just my hormones or a heart attack! Always ends up to be my hormones(thank God). Hang in there. Ann
