Hi,
I am a newbie here. I am scheduled for an EMG next week. Possible cubital/carpal tunnel. It is a work related issue. Anyone have this done? I was told the elbow hurts more and longer recovery time. I think 6-8 weeks out of work. All I know is that it's getting worse. Waking me up at night with pains in arm, stiff hand, etc. I hear the EMG test is awful too. any insight?

I expected the EMG test to be worse than it actually was, but you have probable learned that by now. I have cubital tunnel in my left arm and carpal tunnel in both wrists. I am waiting for surgery date for the elbow now. What were your results?

I have an appt to see the hand surgeon on March 14. I'm sure he is going to want to do the CT surgery. I don't know about the elbow though. The doctor that did the EMG test said there wasn't any nerve damage, maybe just tendonitis. The EMG came out that I have carpal tunnel in the hand. Just have to wait I guess to see the doctor now.

Hope all goes well with you. I am scheduled for ulnar nerve transposition surgery next week (2/21). I have started to lose muscle strength and mass in my hand, so the doctor wants to do this as quickly as possible (to prevent it from getting worse). He's going to wait to do the carpal tunnel release for now as my ulnar symptoms are much worse.

I am losing strength in my hand, the grip is not there. I have a stiff hand in the morning. The arm aches in the morning too but I think the hand is worse right now. It does hurt, but I don't know exactly what they can do for the arm. The EMG doctor told me it's probably tendonitis and once they do the carpal tunnel release the elbow should improve. I hope so. I don't want to be out of work too long. This is a workman's comp issue and they aren't too thrilled right now. I can just imagine how they will react after I see the doctor in March.

Louise -
I had my ulnar nerve surgery on Feb 21st and was just released to return to light duty work on Mar 5th (about 2 weeks later). I was told I won't have full function of the arm for about 6 weeks. Mine was not a workers comp case, though. I have a pillow on my desk to keep the arm elevated as often as possible and am trying to move it regularly as it is very stiff from being immobilized. I have a friend who recently had the carpal tunnel release and she went back to work after one week.
Best of luck

I had my Ulnar Nerve Transposition surgery 3/21/07..I was told I would be able to return to work within 5 days...not the case. I had to take 2 weeks off as not only was I in some discomfort but it was my dominant arm. Thankfully my husband was there to help me....it's not quite as bad as I expected it to be as today is 4/5 and yesterday was my 1st day back to work..I have to use a pillow to support my elbow, and my stitches come out 4/6. with gentle extension and griping of the fingers during my time off I have gained some of my strenth back in my hand..I will however have to have this done on my left elbow also..It's not as bad as it sounds or as bad as you think..a few weeks of pain is worth not losing the function or feeling in my arms & hands forever...I just wish I hadn't let it go so long to where surgery was the only option. I tried cortisone shots (several times) and NO needles with the nerve conduction test either..I was terrified of that! Good luck to you and anyone else who has to have this done.
