Hi all,

I have been dealing with patches of petechiae now for three years. I will get a patch (or sometimes two) on my leg that will take weeks to months to fade away, sometimes expanding while it fades. By the time it is finally gone, I will get another patch!

I have gone to three doctors at various times and was first diagnosed with ringworm (because of the round appearance of my patch with central clearing) and secondly, with folliculitis for an unknown reason and finally on a third visit, with petechiae. However, the third doctor didn't seem concerned. He mentioned that sometimes petechiae simply occurs for no reason. Apparently my petechiae didn't look alarming. That was two and a half years ago, but I am still getting patches.

My question is: If my petechiae were associated with disease or infection, would I still be getting patches after 3 years without other symptoms or worsening petechiae? It is so odd...

Any help will be MUCH appreciated!

Anxiousgrl.

Hi anxiousgirl, have you had extensive bloodwork done during any of the outbreaks? Im asking because I have read that it can sometimes be associated with "Liver Stress" or problems with your Liver. I have been dealing with some symptoms recently and one of them I believe is petechiae, it is mostly on my biceps as well as some reddening of the skin on the underside of my forearms. In the past I have had problems with my Liver Enzymes going up and down, and was also diagnosed with "fatty liver syndrome" about 2 years ago.

The weird thing is, I just found out today that all of my bloodwork came back within normal limits this time, so I also am still left wondering what could be causing these other symptoms. Not knowing is the worst, isnt it?!

Anyways, if you havent had bloodwork done in awhile--especially LFTs (Liver Function Tests), you might want to start there to see if it may be a problem in your case. God Bless!

Hello, my daughter who is almost 3 has had petechiae for about 9 months. She had regular blood work done last summer that came back fine. We were referred to a hem. and they did more extensive work looking for platelet function abnormalities. One came back abnormal so we need to go again to be sure of the exact issue, this is for any operations in the future. What I am getting at is that if you haven't already, you should get extensive bloodwork looking into how your platelet functions are and if any of the factors are off. It is good to know if you need any surgery. Good luck!! : )
