Hey; Just wondering what medications you all might be taking. I just started a new one... well not yet still apprehensive. Not used to taking medication. I have chronic nausea, fullness, stomach discomfort and it feels like I have a lump in my throat...difficulty swallowing anyone else experiencing the above. Also, what meds are working for you.

Hi I'm not one for taking strong meds, I also have an inner ear problem and some pills make me very off balance and "fuzzy".
I just take peppermint capsules before food, prebio7 friendly bacteria and activia yoghurt 2 pots a day, I think symptoms have lightened up since I started this combination either that or I'm just getting used to them.
Hope this helps.

I'm new to the treatment of IBS. I had it for years and just suffered the embarressing and annoying side effects when it would flare. Decided I had enough and went to the gastro had a diagnosis and he put me on levbid. I will take it for his requsite 30days and then it will be my choice to either continue or take it when needed. I will definitly do the later because I don't like taking meds but I can honestly say it has really helped me. I am trying to do better with diet but not always successful with that. I also do the acidophilis (sp) thing.

is the script your taking levbid also the same as hyoscyamine? The generac name? I just got this script and am also nervous about taking it. But have had ibs for ever but worse now with diarrea(sp) mostly after i eat and never knowing just exactly when it is going to hit and i am out some place and need a bathroom immediately. This drug also says causes drowsiness and that concerns me. I am ususally on the fibromyalgia board. And suggestions will very much apprecated.

Hi fibro-worn I am usually on the fibromyalgia board also. Yes, it is the same drug that is levbid and hyoscyamine. I take 2 a day (.0375E is the dosage) and the worse symptom is dry mouth. I did not have dizziness or drowsiness but I have noticed that when wearing my contact lens (I need bifocals so I only wear one lens for distance) I do have some blurry vision. I don't have that problem with my glasses so it may be that my vision with the contact lense has diminished. As I said though the dry mouth has been the worse. I take one tablet first thing in the morning, as soon as I get up and then another about 30 min. before supper or thereabouts according to my docs instructions. My doc says it relaxes smooth muscle, and I can honestly say it has helped with the bloating and that tight tense twisting feeling. I have also been taking a 500mg psyllium vitamin tablet everyday and trying to increase my fiber. Give the levbid a try, just be a little cautious until you know how it will effect you. Good Luck let us know how you do.

Thanks Glojer for your reply. My tablets are 0.125mg. I am suppose to take it just when needed. Because sometimes i have no trouble. But lately it when ever i try to eat out then when i am somewhere ther is not bath room the rumbling of my stomach will start and i have to get to a bathroom quickly. So now i have myself up tight and nervous and maybe i make myself worse and i don't know if it is me or the ibs-d. I tried takin metamucil and that seemed to make things worse so maybe fiber is just for ibs-c??? I work full time and this not knowing when it is going to hit you to go to bathroom is making me nuts.
Thanks for letting me vent.

Venting is a good thing, it will help get rid of some of the tension. Actually my levbid is 0.375E I goofed in the other post. I know what you mean about eating out, that effects me sometimes too. My IBS cycles from diahhrea to constipation so it is always a guessing game. Good luck keep us posted.

Hi there!
Just wondering if anyone has heard of the new drug calledBuscapan[I have suffered with IBS all my life but it has definately gotten worse over time and always gets really bad around that time of the month. I am on week 3 of this new drug and have no severe attacks at all!!!:) There are no severe side effects, I take 10mg 3 times a day. The drug is a antispasmodic and helps our stomachs to digest the food much faster than it does. I am not one on taking medications for every little thing that is wrong with me. But this is a chronic illness that will probably never go away, and I felt it was time.

I believe Buscopan is the same as Bentyl or Dicyclimine im Generic form, i have been using Dicyclomine on and off for a year now on an as needed basis, but this last week my IBS has been causing me a week long holy terror, cramping, running the bathroom, etc. I have never had it hit me this bad for this long, some days I do ok on the Dicyclomine, other days it makes me very nausious and just a crappy feeling, kind of drunk and fuzzy headed. it does help with the cramping but you have to keep taking it and i have been trying to skip a dose to see what happens here and there and its not a good idea (20mgs at a time) has anyone ever had their "flare ups" last longer than a week before it gets back to normal?

My doctor says I have IBS and I had diarrhea almost every day for 1 1/2 months straight.

Of course I'm not convinced it is IBS and pushed my doctor into sending me to a GI doctor.

My diarrhea has been gone for 5 days since I started taking probiotics and L-Lysine. I have posted a thread about it on this board.
