Hi all. I am on my 7th month of Loestrin and for the past 3 or 4 months I can say that I have adjusted to the pill. However, this past Thursday evening I started to spot and it's lasting long enough that I still have it going on now. It's almost like a light period (even though I had my period 2 weeks ago). Strangely enough, the spotting started Thursday night, like I said, which is when my period ususally starts when I begin taking the inactive pills.

I take them at the same time, everyday. Does this happen from time to time even after being on the pill for some time? I know about "spotting", but like I said this is almost like a light period. Is this something I should be concerned about? This is my first time taking bcp's so any commments would be appreciated. Thanks!

What you're experiencing is actually breakthrough bleeding, because spotting is more the light stuff that doesn't act like a period. It's very common for women on BCP's to have breakthrough bleeding and spotting while on the pill. You never really know when it's going to happen or when it will go away, but it happens a lot.

If it continues to happen and doesn't stop, then you might have to switch to a higher dose pill. It's a very, very frequent side effect of the low-dose pills for women to have breakthrough bleeding.

Or you could just do what I did and quit the pill all together. It's not worth all of the side effects and it's completely unnatural anyway. Your body will be much happier if you're not ingesting fake hormones, anyway.
