shopgirl37 01-20-2007, 07:38 PM How good is oatmeal for lowering cholesterol? Has anybody found sucess with it? Let me know..:) :) Sponsor confused32 01-20-2007, 11:37 PM i am also interested. I have been eating oatmeal everyday for about 2.5 months. I go in a few weeks for a repeat cholesterol test, i cant wait to see the results. I also along with the oatmeal have changed my diet, i always read labels now and i am trying to eat more healthy and stay away from all the fat i was eating before i found out my cholesterol was bad. Lenin 01-21-2007, 08:20 AM A lot of people report good results with daily oatmeal. I LIKE oatmeal but not enoughy to eat it more than once a week...I like varied breakfast. If you eat it every day, don't go for any SUGARED variety and the 5 minute oats taste a lot better than the INSTANT (just add hot water) variety. If you cook it with non-fat milk, you'll get more of your morning's protein allowance. confused32 01-21-2007, 10:36 AM I have it everyday, i eat the Maple and Brown Sugar kind and put cinnamon on it. I cant stand the regular flavor....yuck!!! So the flavored kind isnt good for you everyday?? I use skim milk in making mine. Its the instant kind. JJ 01-21-2007, 12:55 PM My husband and I have been doing the oatmeal thing for awhile. I have done it for almost 2 years, and it seems to be doing pretty good for me, and yes, I have it every morning, not the instant, the old fashion kind. I also take 1/2 tsp. of ground spice cinnamon with it, the kind you can buy in any store for about 1.29. Hubby didn't do it till last year after they gave it to him in the hospital each morning, now he uses the oatmeal, apple/cinnamon kind, and also puts a lil extra cinnamon on it. Our last 2 tests were alot better, although not perfect, but the drs. told us to keep up with it. Neither of us can take statins, so do the best we can with diet and exercise. I also take 500 mgs. of vitamin C twice a day, and drink green tea, I like the Bigelow w/lemon. Alot of folks don't like it, but I make about 2 quarts of it at a time, stick it in the fridge. to get cold, and use it as iced tea. Normally I drink about 2 eight oz. glasses a day, as I don't like hot tea. Hope this helps, and good luck..... starship 01-21-2007, 04:34 PM I have bought some Irish Steel Cut Oatmeal to see if it will help with my cholesterol. It takes a long time to cook so I place it in a slow cooker on the lowest setting at around 10 p.m. When I awake in the morning it is just right. Will find out at my next bloodtest if it is helping. I think I will start adding some cinnamon too. |
