For the last month my jaw has been hurting alot and I don't know why. I have been doing all the things I have to do. I been wearning my splint 24/7 that I have to wear, trying to eat food that isn't hard or chewy, Been sleeping good, exercising. Could all the weather changes have anything to do with it? I have heard not to eat much sugar if you have TMJ is this true? I like to eat some sweets.

It could be that your splint needs to be adjusted - your jaw may have shifted a bit due to it being worn - as it should. Weather changes such as is temperature, dryness or humidity could affect it but that would also imply that you have some arthritis or degenerative changes affecting the joints - similar to that of knees, fingers, wrists, etc that hurt. I'm not sure about sugar - it kind of sounds like the old saying that chocolate and pizza cause acne - but I guess if you did have some problems in metablolizing or processing sugar it could produce other reactions. For the most part though I think tmj is a structural issue - in other word its influenced mainly by the functioning of the teeth, jaw, discs, joints and mucles.

My splint seems to be fine it got checked when I got my teeth cleaned a week ago. Like when someone gets me laughting I tense up and my jaw will crack loudly. I know sometimes I wake myself up grinding or cleanching mabe that has something to do with it. Could be anything TMJ has so many different that happen.
