Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can give advice on how to raise HDL,my son-in-law had his blood work done and the numbers weren't too bad,but his HDL was only 36,they told him he was high risk for heart problems. We want to get his HDL up but don't really know how.
Many thanks for any answers.

American Heart Association says.
Total Cholesterol goal: less than 200
HDL goal for men: 40 or higher
HDL goal for women: 50 or higher
Trigylcerides goal: less than 150
LDL goal: less than 100 optimal
If your HDL is 36, you are very close to 40 and I wouldn't
cry wolf.
Try 500 mg - 1000 mg of 'slow niacin', over the counter
supplement.

In addition to (or instead of) the niacin, a regular diet of 3 drinks a day or slightly more for a man will boost HDL better than anything I know. THat's 1.5 ounces of pure alcohol (or about 3 cans of beer or about 13 ounces of wine (12% alcohol)...or 4 ounces of 80 proof booze.
It should be done EVER DAY rather than all on a weekend.
Aerobic exercise is CLAIMED to work, but it doesn't for me.
