have been having problems getting my bp to stay down. And my doc is adjusting my meds. I am now on 20 mg of lisinopril bid, clonidine 0.1 mg 1 in am and 2 pm and he now has added felodipine er 5 mg q am. My bp is still running in the 140/90 range. Is this unusal to combine these drugs, or should I try to get changed to a different med altogether?

I don't think it is unusual to combine these drugs. A few years ago, I had roughly the same layout, with three drugs, too. It worked well for me.... I had to discontinue the ACE-inhibitor (Altace) that I took because I had a nagging cough and some throat closures.

Oh, I hope more people respond. This is the one area of my health, that I still don't have control over. My GP wants me to take multiple drugs too. I can't stand taking drugs. My BP is 150/120. My GP wants me to take BP (Altace) meds with a diuretic. I get the dry cough too (doesn't matter what BP med I take), can't stand it. Wakes me up at night. For the record, my underlying condition is polycystic kidneys (that's why the Altace, it protects my kidney's, and other major organs).

I guess what I'm getting at, is if I have to take three pills with no resolution, then why should I bother at all? Is there anyone else who has to take multiple prescriptions to lower their BP, and if so did it work?

I guess I'm in the same boat as dmc414 (although I must say, your blood pressure isn't bad, that's just borderline BP, way to go).

My bp was about 178/98 and I was put on some medication...I take Diovan and Inderal. It didn't do much to lower the numbers and I was sent in to have a sleep study done. I was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea and now use a CPAP mask most nights. I have also been encouraged to lose weight AND...see a psychologist once in a while. Well, this has been going on for several months. I have lost only 7 pounds....but walking more...talk with the psychologist about stress/anxiety (he focuses on my epilepsy...did I mention that?) and using the CPAP mask at night. I went to the doctor last week and my bp was 133/88. Something is working...but who knows what...I guess it doesn't matter...everything I am doing has improved the quality of life for me...

Because maintaining a good BP significantly lowers your risk for unfortunate outcomes such as stroke, heart attack, coronary artery disease, etc.

I have been a multiple-med user for over 15 years. Although my control is not perfect, I feel good, the docs have adjusted the meds so that I have very few side-effects. And, I have had no stroke nor heart attack.
