Hi there,
Just wondering if anyone could shed some light on my situation  - I likely should go to see my dr. but I thought I'd throw a post out there in the meantime. I've been on ortho-tricyclen for almost 10 years and just recently, in the past year or so have had a few of episodes of "breakthrough bleeding" (i.e. spotting, brown-ish blood about a week before my period is actually due). In the past 9 years I have always been super regular and could practically time when my period was going to start. This month, I started getting the brown-ish spotting a full week and a half before my period is due to start. At first I wasn't too worried, but now I've been spotting for 5 days straight...I'm wondering if I've been on ortho-tricyclen for too long and my body's developped a tolerance to it or something? Anyone have any bright ideas or similar stories?
Thanks!

Hello. I'm kind of in the same situation, but I've only been on birth control for about 5 years, almost 6. I've switched pills a few times but I've been on Trinessa for most of the time, which is the generic of OrthoTricyclen. Last month I had that same brown spotting for the whole two weeks before my period, it was so annoying. Now this week I bled a little during sex, which has also happened before, and my period is due in a week. I think it's all normal, I guess maybe your body just needs a higher dose after so long. You might want to talk to your dr. about switching.
