View Full Version : Ears popping and clogged...

For about a year I had a very big ear problem with wax (I think it happened after an infection) and I didn't do anything about it. Eventually, it go so horrible that I went to the ENT and he cleaned them out. However, ever since then my ears feel clogged and sometimes I can't pop them at all -- others I can, but there is a constant pressure problem. When I play sports of any kind and get exhausted, my ears TOTALLY clog up with pressure and I can't even talk right from it until my heart beat slows down and I get my breathe back, then the pressure seems to be relieved, slowly.

I kind of assumed this was problems with E. tubes (I forget the full word!), but I don't know anymore. The ENT didn't mention anything except that everything looked fine and my ears were totally cleaned out, so it's nothing to do with the ear drum or fluid, hopefully.

Anyways, suggestions would be nice and if there's anything over-the-counter that could help with it, let me know. I've dealt with horrible ear infections my entire life, so this is not so surprising.

Does the problem alleviate with routine decongestant and anti-histamine use? If you are unsure try taking claritin-D for a week and see if the problem alleviates. This is an experiment I would try if I were you. If you are already on a decongestant/anti-histamine combination ignore that experiment. If not and you try it and it works I would look into allergy testing. You should also look into a CT scan to determine if fluid is begin retained elsewhere than the outer ear and near outer ear just behind the ear drum, did the ENT not do this? It seems like it is a fluid problem in the ear of some sort.. and you are looking for the word "eustacion" tube. Best of luck to you.
Sincerely,
MG
