View Full Version : Surprising blood test result, OK ultrasound

Well, I received my liver ultrasound results; OK but for a mildly fatty liver ("a few streaks".) That, I know, is reversible through sensible diet, exercise, etc. The blood tests showed enzymes still up just mildly - not enough for my dr. to stop the zocor.

However, there was also a positive Hepatitis B surface antibody (I THINK they said antibody, not antigen.) However, the nurse said it was negative for hepatitis "overall" . I have an appt. with my longtime gastroenterologist who will sort this out. This is quite a surprise, as I have NEVER engaged in ANY of the risky behaviors for hep B, and neither has my husband of 32 years (each other's "one and only.") In fact, when I showed him the list of behaviors associated with hep B, he laughed out loud!!! The closest we come to any of them is visiting Romania, Greece, and Turkey (countries where the incidence is higher) but the craziest thing we did there was eat lunch off the ship!

I have heard that there is a good chance of a false positive, so will pursue this. I've never had the vaccine (as it is a series of three, I believe I would remember) and never been sick with anything remotely resembling hepatitis symptoms.

Anyone else have this blood test result? Outcome?

Thanks!

Marie
