View Full Version : Dr 'thinks" Lupus or RA >Methotrexate

I had a follow-up with my rheumaologist yesterday. To review, my symptoms were mainly an achy feeling all over, especially in the upper back/shoulder area, slighted herniated disc in lower back with pain when rising from sitting position or climbing steps, extreme fatigue, and migraine headaches.

My dr told me initially that my symptoms and blood work "did not match" and that I was ANA+, suggesting lupus. She put me on Plaquenil and prednisone at first. When the prednisone stopped, I broke out in a horrible itching "measle-like" rash. Allergic reaction to the Plaquenil, went back on prednisone for a week.

She now wants to put me on Methotrexate to lower my immune system and for the pain. I am not too sure I want to go this route. She's considering Lupus or RA-some type of auto-immune disease. I'm afraid if I take the methotrexate, I will incur side effects like nausea, weakness and susceptibility to illnesses that will make it difficult to continue working full time.

I am so confused, considering getting another opinion......please help me by voicing your thoughts.

Hi,

I just wanted to tell you that I take prednisone and methotrexate - I take 20 mg. of methotrexate once a week. It has been a big help to me. I am very careful about washing my hands all the time, staying away from anyone with colds, cough, taking my vitamins, etc. I get my bloodwork done regularly to check for any changes in my counts. Overall I am happy with the methotrexate and the help it has given me. Good luck to you.
