About 2 weeks ago I had a killer stomach ache -- the worst I've ever had in my life I think -- and subsequent diarrhea. Usually after evacuating I feel a lot better but this time around I still felt really ill which made me extremely nervous and panicky. Somewhere in the midst of that anxiety my heart starting beat irregularly, which I attributed, of course, to anxiety. I do have a history of panic disorder, and I know that it can cause an irregular heartbeat so I wasn't worried about that at the time. Time has passed, however, and I'm still getting these flutters -- at least a handful each day. They seem to come on as soon as I physically exert myself, e.g., walking up a flight of stairs. In the past I have had an occasional heart flutter -- once every few weeks maybe -- but I never once had a stretch of them like this. Any ideas? Should I get an EKG?

I would see a cardiologist. Your electrolytes could be low after your stomach virus. It could also be a thyroid problem. Magnesiums help some people but it makes my palpations worse. I have arrythmias but haven't found the cause of mine yet.

See a cardiologist.......start with an EKG........use a 24 hour halter and/or event monitor............get the echocardio done......a stress test and blood work....

That will begin to shed light on it....
