Just curious, I had a really bad couple of days last week. I still work full time. 3 years to retirement.

Anyway, got up in the morning did the usual stuff and went to work.

As soon as I got there I knew I shouldn't have been there.

I just felt like I had run a marathon after drinking all night. I was just wiped out.
So I told the boss I felt bad and went home.

I could barely stay awake to drive home even though I had slept 8 hours the night before. I got home went to back to bed at 8:30am and didn't wake up 'til 2pm. I stayed up 'til 10pm and went back to bed and slept 'til 10am.

I've never had this happen before. Is this common with Fibro?

Ever since then I've had to take it really easy. It feels like I'm right on the edge and if I push too hard I'll be totally wiped out.

Sounds like basic fatique. I would also recommend paying close attention to your nutrition and daily water consumption.

I get that way sometimes. Sometimes so exhausted I can't move. It is a terrible feeling. I've had that happen where I slept 15 hours straight. It is almost as someone pulled the plug out on me. Then other times I am up all nite and can't sleep at all.

I have times when I sleep 23 out or 24 hours. there is nothing you can do about it. Would not wish FM on anyone. Other times, it seems as if I do not need any sleep. Try Lunestra and stay on a schedule when it comes go going to sleep. I wish you well.

Oh Yes, I have slept for an entire year ~ no kidding

Just today, woke up feeling okay (better than usual), cleaned the kitchen, went grocery shopping, came home and crashed - literally, on the couch. Slept for 3 hours. Not uncommon for me.

Hope you feel better soon.

I was like that this week. After I got my kids off to school I'd sleep til noon and go to bed at 10 pm that same night. rinse , repeat . This was a 5 day stretch of that and I had a tension headache at the same time. :blob_fire

Right after I posted on Saturday that I came home and slept 3 hours on the couch (after sleeping 10 hours the night before), I fell right back to sleep Saturday for another 4 hours, woke up and went to bed to sleep 10 more hours. I have slept 27 hours since Friday night ~ goodness, it is a good thing no one relies on me for anything.

Been a total waste :dizzy:

I know some people with fibro do not like to take meds. But I have been on provigil for fatigue and has helped soooo much! I cant run marathons, but I can go grocery shopping and to the mall in one day, maybe feel slightly tired but I dont crash and sleep for hours. If I dont take it, the fatigue is definitely felt. But this med has given me some of my life back, and thats worth more than anything! My fatigue is the worse it can be, I can relate to all of your issues. The fatigue had been constant for almost a year before I started taking provigil. It is a pretty interesting med, I did a search on this board and read a lot of posts on it.

The med is expensive, and some insurance companies do not cover it, but its worth looking into, It worked for me.

Best of luck to all,

Michelle

Greetings Radar,

I am an "elder" on the board, but haven't posted in awhile but I may have a "possible" answer that you can talk to your doc about.

Chronic Fatigue Immune Dyficiency Sydrome, or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, most docs DO agree that CFS is a condition that affects the immune system and that it usually will go "hand in hand" with FM. A lot of people with FM will have CFS also. It's awful, I have it, and I know what you mean about the fatigue. It's much more powerful feeling of tiredness than your FM type of fatigue.

I can relate to the driving and just feeling like you need to pull over and nap! I would literally be nodding off at the wheel just driving to or from a doc's appt.

BTW, my hats off to you and your upcoming retirement. Most of us with FM don't get that far. I am 48 and just won SSD last June. I hadn't worked since 2003 and I had been working since I was 15 years old. Remember when minimum wage was $1.20? LOL So, now I'm to deal with the fact that the money I'm getting is considerabley less than what I would have gotten had I been able to work out to my retirement age and build up more SS. Although I am grateful to have the money, it was a long road to get it, I still feel robbed of nearly 15 or so years where I could have at least worked more, been more productive, had a more fulfilling life and when I finally did retire, have more income. I was lucky enough that I had worked long enough to qualify for Medicare immediately though.

I don't go to Rhuemies anymore, I just lost faith in their wide difference of diagnosing FM. I did have one tell me that it is very common for CFS and FM to go hand in hand, that usually when you have FM you will have the other. Yes, I can relate to getting up for a couple hours, trying to do something, or simply watch TV, but having to lay down cuz you feel exhausted. You lay down, doze off, read, sleep, then up again for a couple hours, then back in bed for four hours. It's frustrating that you become so freindly with your bed! And bad on the muscles. To me, CFS will "peak", and I will have days where I am like that, kinda like a Fibro Flare up. Look around on the .Net for info on it and talk with your doc about it. I DO take meds for it, they prescribe it for "hyperinsomnia", it's called Provigil. It is a stimulant, but does seem to relieve the exhaustion and I don't feel so tired and yet I'm not bouncing off the walls, or unable to go to sleep at night. So it works for me.

It is nice to meet you and it's nice to read a lot of some of my old "buddies" posts here. Lot's of new folks. And STILL I read the same old bullmalarky about docs not taking FM seriously and people having a hard time GETTING a diagnosis. Being in pain and docs shrugging off that pain. I can't believe it's still going on. I am lucky to have a very good Pain Management doc, but I am still in immnese pain because my lower back injury, nerve damage, and the FM all feed off each other. I'm pretty much housebound now. I have a tumor on my right outter thigh that I'm having ultrasound today. Doc says they are common and usually not cancerous, and they will most likely remove it since it bothers me a lot.

Well, enough for now, I hope I offered you some kind of help. There is a CFIDS board here to check out, but I figure that FM and CFS are good friends and live in harmony in my body! LOL What can ya do?

Hang on to the rope!

Radar be sure to have your thyroid checked, sleeping all the time is what I did before I started to get help for my thyroid problems. I have had major fatigue lately and my doc has added to my thyroid meds. It is beginning to help some.

TK it is so good to see your post with all the good info.

Hey Gloj!

I forgot about the Thyroid. Good point. I had my Thyroid checked a couple years back and they found little "nodules" on it, but I was supposed to go back after 1 year and have it rechecked, and I never did. I got so sick and tired of people probing and poking at me, plus, the medical bills were begining to become hideous. So, yeah, definately, could be a thyroid problem. My fatique is pretty much stable now, I have some days where I crash, and I also think that I'm tired simply out of boredom. Happens when you are inactive.

Good to see you my friend.

I was sent to a pain management clinic a few weeks ago. The doc there was very negative to me until I told her that I didn't ask to come there. Then she became more friendly and evaluated me more carefully. The she said "I don't think that you Fibro. I think that you have Chronic Fatigue." She went on to say that it wasn't CFS because I have sleep apnea and that disqualifies the syndrome. Any way it's kind of interesting the way things go. The first two things that I identified with when this all started was FMS and CFS and now I actually have 2 doctors who agree with me. I was given a perscription for provigil but I really didn't want to take it. It just seemed like the doctors kept throwing new drugs at me. I think that is is time to start takling it.

gotta go
