I started the Singulair on Mon so I've only had 2 doses.
Each night I wake up during th enight to use the bathroom. I feel like my heart is doing flip flops and I actually feel as though I can feel each breath I take. Sometimes feel like I'm not getting enough air, that's from the start. I actually feel worse than when I started. Is this common. There really isn't much in the way of side effects listed for this drug which is why the Dr picked it for me. I am very drug sensitive and must be carefull that what I take mixes with my other meds. My Dr said try this for 2 weeks then call so I'm waiting.
Thanks agian for your help.

Do you have a rescue inhaler? If so, you should use it when this happens.

i think if you feel worse than when you started this is something you should discuss with your doctor as soon as you can. some meds really do not suit people and if you are waking up at night and having accelerated heart rate this is not a good sign that this medicine is right for you.
your reaction to this med sounds very similar to mine and i stopped using it because it did nothing for me-made me feel worse too.
there are lots of other options out there, you dont have to stick with this one

Thanks to both that answered.
First nothing ordered except Singulair no rescue breather.
Second I will first ask pharmacist because I know other meds I am on or have been on they tell me it takes time to get use to it that should go away. I did not ask about this one because the side effect list is so short.
Thank you once again

Did you see a pulmonologist? I'm very surprised that you're diagnosed with asthma and have no rescue inhaler. What are you to do when you have an attack?

Yes he is a pulmonologist and I don't know why he just ordered Singulair and said try this for 2 weeks and then we will go from there and Yes he said I have asthma.
I did speak to a pharmacist today adn she said that only the most frequent side effects are listed it may be a rare one but if it does not resolve in a few more days I should call him and if I feel I need more I should call him.
Thanks again

I was put on singulair also when I started having the same problems as you are mentioning. I recently went to my doctor and he gave me an albuterol sulfate (rescue) inhaler for any breakthrough I have. I tried to ween myself off singulair.....BAD IDEA...my symptoms got even worse. My heart felt like it was absolutly pounding. I went back on it and feel better again. When I started singulair I had alot of leg cramps, but they went away after two weeks. If you have times where you still cant breath right...ask about a rescue inhaler. Albuterol can make you feel shaky though and make your heart race...tell your doctor if you have any heart problems at all, its important. Take Care!

Thanks but the reason that he said he picked thismed is because it worked with all my meds. I'm already on heart meds. This all started with a complaint to my cardiologist who sent me for the pulmonmary function test. I think that's why he started me just on the Singulair. I think I'm getting used to it I did not wake up with those flip flop feelings in my chest last 2 nights.
Take care
