I'm not sure which board to put this on...

I'm going through some relationship problems right now. I am, unfortunately, an emotional eater. Plus, I'm at college so food is everywhere! I go to the gym regularly (3 or 4 times a week for a good hour each time), and like to do a lot of things. I'm a generally busy person, but I think a lot of my hurt and disappointment is coming out in my eating habits as I am steadily gaining weight. I've read a lot on this, but I can't seem to find the self control! I'm looking for some novel ideas or stories of how you were able to get over/out of emotional eating.

I would recommend calling someone or getting some exercise each time you feel the urge to eat for purely emotional reasons. Do you have friends that you can talk to every once in a while? I know that talking with people can help you feel more connected, and you can even recruit them when you want to exercise which might encourage you to be more active :)

I deal with the same thing. I'm working on fixing it.. I started buying sugar free hard candy (I love the sugar free cream savers) and keep it around. That way when I get in the mood to eat, I have a hard candy. They taste good and barely have any calories. I get sugar free to prevent cavities, and the calories are lower with them. I also keep a lot of water around. The water tends to fill me up so I don't want to eat as much. I also try to keep food out of my room and try to not buy as much snack foods. I've been buying more fruit so I can eat an apple for something healthier. I'm also in college so I know it can be tough! Good luck!
