When eating hard-boiled eggs, is the yolk actually that bad for you? I like the taste but I will quit eating them if I have to.

There are a lot of vitamins in the yolk that are very good for you, but moderation is the key. For high protein, low fat and still a fair amount of nutritional content, I make omelets and scrambled eggs with 1 whole egg and 3 to 6 egg whites. Just an FYI for you diet conscious folk, www.cyberdiet.com (http://www.cyberdiet.com) is a decent source of nutritional information on all manners of food. The only problem I have with the site is when you set it to calculate the the caloric value of a food at different portion sizes, it multiplies or divides the original amount... so if a food (pickles) has zero calories at 1 serving, a million servings have zero calories and that's just silly. It's kind of nitpicky, but something to be aware of. redwing 06-01-2001, 02:36 PM I think eggs are an ideal food for the protein content, while not having excessive calories. Found this recipe recently for hard boiled eggs - seems to work great: First do not use real fresh eggs, as they will be harder to peel. Also, if you add about 1/4 cup white vinegar to the water, the eggs will be easier to peel. Put eggs in a pan and cover with cold water. Bring to a boil and continue boiling for 5 minutes. Turn off the heat and let them sit covered for 20 minutes. Run them unger trickling cold water (after boiling, while still hot or after being refrigerated) and tap them all over so that the whole shell is in fragments but still attached, then when you pick a hole at the top, it will peel like an orange. Always works for me. =] |
