I am new to this Board so not sure how to do this.

I had a PSA test and a DRE.

How long do I have to wait before Ican have another PSA test?

I thought I read somewhere that the DRE "stimulated" the Prostate so I need to wait a month for another PSA Test.

Is this true?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I understand that there should be no intercourse, bike riding, heavy exercise, etc. for 72 hours prior to PSA and the DRE should be done AFTER the blood is drawn for the PSA.

Were you asking because your PSA was high??

Sparky0911 Thank you for your interest/concern.

Having read many (over 100) messages, I realize that this is a very open/honest group.

Age 63: My PSA History: Jan, '07: 2.62; Mar, '05 1.84; Feb, '04 1.52.

I am very analytical (anal) and very scared about PC. I recognize that the PSA results should generate minimal concern. After my PCP did a DRE, he indicated "no cause for alarm or urgency". However, I am still scared so I convinced him to allow me to get another PSA five weeks after the DRE and seven weeks after the first blood test.

I also (think?) I had sex a couple of days before the last PSA but getting old so my memory is not that good!!!!

My intent is to get the next PSA test as soon as possible to help my anxiety - therefore the question of how long I should wait.

Again, thanks for your interest/concern.

Sween:

Your PSA is certainly not extreme, but that does not always rule out PCa. Sounds like you have already talked your doctor into another PSA test, so when you have the next one done ask for a "free" PSA also. The "free" PSA should be above 19%.

Good luck and even if you do have PCa it would appear that you would have caught it early and chances of cure are excellent.
