hi, I have a lower splint for grinding. I was wondering why some dentists make uppers and some make lowers. Do some people have splints for both upper and lower? Also, I want to go to a "specialist". What exactly is a specialist for grinding/tmj? Is a regular dentist with extra qualifications or an orthodontist? Also, I am in Calgary, Alberta if anyone can recommend one. Thanks.

My dentist sent me to an orthodontist for tmj issues. Ask for whatever specialist in your area has a speciality with tmj.
I'm getting new night guards made and I wonder the same thing-why sometimes only an upper or lower or sometimes both. I'll ask at my next app't.

hello everyone,
To find a good specialist call around your local dentists and look them up in the internet (local ones) , i typed in tmj dentist and around5 popped up , i then called there reception , asked how many years experiences they have etc.
I told people who answered the phone for honesty and i didn't want to go to someone who sort of deals with it... surprisingly people were honest and i found a good dentist (shes mean but she does the job)
I have both upper and lower splints which are made to completely equalize your bite and speeders the process ten fold.
I couldnt live without my 2 splints even though they are annoying , results are seen faster...

DEAR TEMERA I;VE MY SELF BEEN VERY FRUSTING WITH TMJ DOES A SPLTS REALLY WORK. ?????????? please i;m in a allott off pain. frist off all i know it can be costley. one dentist recommed a bottom split. also my ear;s fill as thou plunged, and they pop allot. please reapley terry. can;it take thai pain no more. some times i don;it even fell like living. troe out the hole day i just see black and white. my hole life seem;s about my teeth. please help
