Hi, i've been lifting for years now and have a well developed upper body and now i'm really focusing on lower body without much success. ive been doing squats and its been good for quads n hamstrings, but has done nothing for my butt. squats simply dont isolate the butt muscles well enough. Any workout suggestions for a larger, more rounded butt that really isolates the muscles and gets that "burn" going? thanks in advance

Yes, hop on the treadmill and set the incline to the highest possible... Then walk backwards on it. So it would be like you are walking backwards up-hill... Trust me, you will feel it!!!

Deep lunges, deadlifts, and kickbacks work extremely well. Even high inclines didnt do much in the way of putting on muscle for me.

You don't have to walk on the treadmill backwards necessarily. I do this at the gym. I just set the treadmill on the highest incline and "walk uphill" for about 30 minutes. It really does lift the butt. Unfortunately, how cute and rounded your butt gets depends a lot on genetics, also.

Stupid question -- what exactly is a deadlift, how is it done?? I'm looking for all the help I can get :)
Thanks

It's incredibly important to have good form doing deadlifts. You really should hunt down a clip and detailed description of the exercise, or just ask a trainer at your gym to show you how it's done. They'll usually oblige for free for just a minute of their time.
Basically, it's picking up a barbell from the floor in a sort of reverse squat, but it's much more glute intensive, and again, very important to do correctly.

Punkybear,
I do walk forward on the incline as well, and it is good stuff... The backward walking works different muscles though, and it is more intense on the glutes, especially those muscles that are generally under-exercised (is that a word? lol)
As far as stares from other people.. I guess I'm kind of spoiled, I still live w/ my mom (i'm 23) and use her treadmill in the basement. :)

wanderingsoul,
dont worry, i'm spoiled too. must be an east coast thing.lol.jk
since i'm a guy, i might try the treadmill workout while holding dumbells for as much workout as i can get. good idea?
few more questions... when doing leg kick-backs, is there any way to add resistance to this workout. or maybe even a leg machine for this?
also, what about reverse leg curls? where the padding rests on the back of your ankle..does that target the butt?
again, thanks for all the replies!

Curls are almost exclusively hamstrings, not glute. There are kickback machines or you can use cables or resistance bands to add more resistance to it.

Oh, wow! I wish I had a treadmill at home because I don't think I can bring myself to do this at the gym! That makes sense that it would work underworked muscles!
I have found the best thing for my butt is the elyptical machine at a higher resistance. My friends and I call it the "buttt machine"!
