About a year ago my boyfriend was coming down the stairs and suddenly he fell and had a seizure. I called an ambulance and the ER did blood tests and CT scan all came back fine they said it was probly cause hed been taking xanax and it was from suddenly stopping it. He followed up with his Dr and was put on Tegretol and an EEG was scheduled but he never went. Well he didnt have another seizure until 2 days ago. We figured it must have been from the meds like the ER Dr said. Until he this happend again. He said for the hours preceeding this he had a strange headache but never knew he was gonna fall again. He had just sat down in the chair and fell out. Both times they lasted for about 3 min. He stiffens then goes into convulsions, suddenly snaps out of it for a few seconds then goes to sleep..... I dint call 911 since I knew what had happend and when he woke up he was not aware of what happend and was disoriented at first but was fine after a couple minutes. He was 33 when he had his first seizure and im worried cause he had cancer as a child and recieved high doses of chemo and radiation therapy off and on for many years. He doesnt like to go to the Dr and i told him he must, but he still has not called. I was going to call for him but if he refuses to go there is not much I can do. Can epilepsy start at age 33? I dont know how to approach this and i dont know much about epilepsy. Any advice I would greatly appreciate.

Mama Lisa,
I am not a Doctor, however on my 21st birthday I recieved the present of Grand Mal siezures...I am not sure if Chemo or threatments would have anything to do with it (again I am not a Dr)..But I would suggest that you demand your man see a Dr. (Get mean about it if you have to)..
The siezures could be comming from somthing else..(could even be diet I have been told)...So I suggest again, getting him to go to the Dr and at least get it check out. At least you would no for sure...

I've had sensory simple partial seizures (auras) for over 15-20 years... I had my first Gran Mal seizure (out of a total of 8) Oct. 12, 2001 at 46 years old. Both types of my seizures are not directly related (in my opinion) because they never happen close together.
Migraines definitely can be a trigger for a Gran mal.
Having normal mri and eeg tests don't mean you won't have more seizures either. Only a doctor would probably know if chemotherapy would trigger seizures... but my guess would be yes, because of the headaches.
It's not always necessary to call 911 every time someone has a seizure. Just make sure the person doesn't hurt themselves, turn them onto their side, and calmly talk to them until they wake up. If after a while, they didn't know who or where they were, then they probably should go to the hospital.
Drastic changes in anti-epileptic medicine or anxiety medicine amounts could trigger seizures too.
Good luck getting him to go to a doctor. I went until I got both kinds of my seizures under control as best as possible. If they get worse or change, I go back.
