i am taking 20 mg of otc prilosec, tums, and mylanta before bed. this is not helping. i don't feel like it's always reflux, it feels more like just heartburn all the time. i wake up with it before i even eat. it makes be sick at my stomach. i had a refelxogist run a test on me once and she said i was very acidic. and that was way before i had heartburn problems. now i am thinking she was right. what is the best thing to take.

i bought some generic type of acid reducer that is compared to pepcid. has abyone had any luck with this for heartburn? just wondering. it is 20 mg, but said not take more than 2 a day. so i am going to try t he 40 mg, because 20 mg of prilosec is not cutting it.

Hi Teacher.. Gaviscon is a wonder "drug" when it comes to heartburn:blob_fire or GERD or anything of that nature. Take the liquid form, it does seem to work better. Easy to take and you don't have to worry about side effects. It usually works within about 15-30 minutes.
good luck!

does gaviscon have aluminum in it? aluminum is toxic (cause dementia and osteoporosis and kidney probs....). i don't want to ingest it so I am very frustrated with the OTC meds out there. Most contain aluminum. sigh! i got some mylanta that is just calcium and magnesium.

Use the extra strength Mylanta Liquid. I take 2 teaspoons at bedtime and it works well, no longer wake up with a burning stomach. I also use it during the day if needed.

Try baking powder ( not baking soda.. baking soda has other stuff in it, cream of tartar etc)
1 teaspoon of baking powder in a little bit of warm water, drink it all fast!
Better than Alka Seltzer, cheaper and less harmful than OTC remedies!
Works fast to nuetralize acid...faster than anything on the market!

Hey Teacher... i suffer from reflux and ive been told im very acidic too, im on 30mg Lansoprazole one a day everyday... it works wonders but it is a prescription drug. Another great over the counter remedy is Zantac, that works wonders.

cronic worrier what drug is that your on. is it like nexium? i have tried last 2 nights not eating anything after 6:00 at night which is very hard. i have cut out caffeine, chocolate, spicy, and greasy foods as much as i can. it is hard. i have lost 5 pounds. went to the dr. today and told him otc prilosec was not helping, and he said double the dose for a week and if it does not get better then we will have to do the scope ddown you. he said there are other medicines out there but really prilosec is the best. im thinking just let me try something else. it stinks being 28 years old and having to watch what you eat and always worrying about is this going to hurt me. i live on mylanta and tums and pepcid right now, but trying to improve diet. they say stress makes it worse too, has anyone heard that?
