Hey, Well ive made a topic before about my thoughts of hurting my loved ones, and they are so bad right now. But ive now got another fear, An old school friend of mine ( we werent close at all ) havent seen him in about 4 years. He drank drove and killed someone and is now in prison, ever since i heard about this ive been so scared i do the same, and i keep imagining it, i hate it alot, i just passed my test a few weeks ago and im not even enjoying it anymore, when i drive i think ive had a drink when i havent and its horrible. can anyone relate to this? I've never been drunk in my life, i avoid alcohol as much as i can because it makes you do stupid stuff and i dont dare drink it incase i do something bad but i fear i drink it without knowing. is this also OCD? Please reply if you can relate, thanks!!

Sounds very OCD to me. A lot of OCD'ers worry a great deal about doing something wrong, especially something that goes against their sense of ethics and morality, and for a lot of people this would naturally be things like breaking the law, causing harm to others or putting them in danger, being responsible for an accident, etc. The worry can extend to thinking you have done something wrong without realizing it. Many people suffer from this type of problem. You will hear a lot of OCD'ers concerned that they have cheated on their spouses or partners without realizing it. It's irrational, illogical anxiety, the biggest symptom of OCD. It's the same situation with you.

You're obviously a very responsible person, and the problem here is not any wrongdoing on your part... it's just our mutual friend OCD playing it's tricks. What happened with the guy you knew from school has probably spiked you and led to an escalation of this fear you have. This is always the case with this disorder... we hear or see somethng that bothers us, and we worry that the same might apply to our circumstances.

The good thing is that the thoughts cause you anxiety. If htey didn't then you would probably be a drunk and drive all over the place, so it is definitely OCD. I take Xanax for anxiety and meditation is the only thing that I have found that really helps with the thoughts. I practice Mindfulness Meditation every morning and it gets me through the day. Do some research and if you have any questions at all feel free to ask. I check this board almost every day. You could call it my compulsion. LOL. I just like talking with people who I share a condition with. It has really helped me to realize that I am not alone and that there is hope as it should do for you.

Take care,

this is exactly how i feel! i get things liek this, a bit different but if i see or hear of something bad that affects me i think that i can do it or will or have! as ocdengineer has read in my other posts. i never ever thought this could be a part of OCD, i didnt think i had OCD.
that part about cheating on spouses is a huge thing for me, im terrified of doing it like i'd have no control over it!! i have nightmares about it that i cant remember if i have or not!
wow
