For the past four days I have had explosive diarreah and incredibly intense stomach pains. I can feel my colon spasming so I know it is just another bad flare up of IBS. Does anyone have any suggestions of what helps them when they get bad stomach cramps. Mine tend to be lower in my abdomen. The only thing I have found that helps is a hot pack or sleep. I obviously can't do either of those two things while I am at work (I am a teacher) so I would appreciate any suggestions anyone has! It is getting so bad it is hard to breathe. Ahhhh.
Thanks and Blessings!

Hi WFL,

When I had IBS spasms, there was the heating pad & the tub (until you run out of HOT water) ... but I had to be careful with the tub because in intense spasm I couldn't even get my legs to work right, safely, getting in & out.

Since I've gotten rid of my IBS, they've come out with those Thermacare patches (there are other brands). They put out a pretty good heat, are self-adhesive, and you can get large-ish ones for the abdomen. Not sure if that would help.

Have you talked to your doc? There are a number of med & treatment options these days: antibiotics are starting to be recognized as often helpful, and there are meds that are sort of "gut SSRIs."

I do hope you can find a workable solution. Keep in mind that, if med treatments fail, there are many of us who have solved our IBS on our own, quite successfully.

Best wishes.
