my 4 year old son latley has been telling me his penis is sore.. not when he urinates but he'll for example be sitting the couch and all of a sudden grab it saying his penis hurts, well i had a look and looks normal however i was discussing it with a family memeber and well i did not realise i was supposed to be pulling the foreskin back to clean.. (oops) so anyway i thought id come look here for info and see that some think you should pull it back and some think you shouldnt, My son wont let me, well he let me tonight but it hurt him apparently.. should it hurt? he can do it himself and it doesnt appear to hurt when he does it but should it hurt at all?

also.. lately he doesnt seem to pee straight, this wasnt a problem until recently, he now seems to miss the toilet and get the floor down the side.. i am not sure weather that is becasue he is holding on untill he really has to go then its such a rush to get there that his aim is off OR weather there could be something rong? i no he wont have perfect aim all the time as hes only 4 and alot of growen men miss! but because he is complaining that it hurts sometimes i wonder if it is related?

AND one other thing.. he seems to need to pee ALOT we can be in the supermarket for an hour and he will have gone before we left home then goes another two times while we are there.. not sure if hes not finishing when he does go so thats making him need to go again or.. ? any suggestions?

oh im sorry this is gettng long but i am wondering if there is a problem down there, could that cause an upset stomache? when he had tonsilitis he got a sore stomahe with it, the dr said it affected some glands or something and today he said he had a sore tummy, then he threw up but was fine afterwards..

i have booked an appointment with the dr just to be sure but would appreciate your thoughts in the meantime.. thanks :)

Hi, my 6-yr old son had a lot of the same symptoms and he was diagnosed as having a "viral bladder infection" which apparently they can't do anything for. We try to have him drink a cup of cranberry juice daily (without added sugar in it) and that seems to help.

It's best to get him to pull it back himself and wash just with plain water. Avoid bubble baths as they irritate intact boys' penises and are not good for little girls' genitalia either. Soap can also irritate, hence the plain water.
It sounds to me like he has some sort of UTI, whether bacterial or viral and it's the right thing to do to see a doctor. Run though if he or she suggests circumcision as a first option, which is still possible in some countries. That should not even be on the radar for this sort of minor problem.
You could train him to pull back about half way when he urinates and this should help with his aim.
