Hi.

I recently got a letter through the door from hospital saying that I need to carry a card with me that says anti -cw. And if I ever need blood they need to be aware of it.

But what exactly does this mean? Have I caught something? I have tried looking on google, but it hasn't given me any information!

Thanks.

I'm no doctor but I looked on another web site and found this Anti-Cw is an uncommon cause of clinically significant hemolytic disease of the newborn. Or uncommon red cell antibody such as anti-Cw. Sounds like Anti-CW is something in your red blood cells that can cause problems if you are given blood for transfusion-ie surgery. Check with your doctor, or call the lab at the hospital where you were and ask them to explain what it means. Doesn't sound like anything to worry about, just you have something different in your blood that most people don't have. Probably some kind of genetic thing and nothing you can do anything about.
