I was working out the other day and really over did it. I did squats and the next 2 days I could barely walk. I am still feeling some residual effects. How long should I give it before I should get worried?

Hi C,

I injured my side about 2 weeks ago and it hurt for about a week. I looked up how to treat doms, (delayed onset muscle soreness) and most articles recommended ibuprofen, rest. They also mentioned that lightly working that area will help heal the area faster. I can still feel a slight ache in my side so I have been going about 20 lbs lighter on lat pulldowns and will gradually work up again. If it still hurts as bad within a week then you may want to see a doc but it sounds like you are feeling better so you may want to go easy until you do. Good Luck

What you could have is ostio pubis. Now I know it sounds a little silly but there are a lot of footballers who actually get this. And its affects the groin area. I don't know how to treat it but overall I think rest is best. I have seen this put a footballer out for close to a season so if its in that area I would get it checked out by your G.P. I thought that I had it but the doc that I was seeing didn't tell me nothing. And still to this day I keep getting twinges there and the next time it happens I will be going to see my new doc who actually tells me what the problem is. All the best and I hope this can help you out a little, as the more you know the better of you'll be. The Tattman

Give it 3 or 4 days before really worrying. Leg soreness is always the worst. If you're only sore in a very localized area (like a pulled tendon or torn muscle), you may well have an injury, but if you're sore all over as well, it's probably just DOMS and will subside. But after 4-7 days, you might see a doc.
