Hi all,
after many blood tests wich still are not back yet, I recieved a letter from my Neuro yesterday. I cannot make out what he is saying or trying to say. It reads as follows:
This lady has recently undergone a lumbar puncture, wich has revealed normal CSF constituents including protein, glucose and cell count, BUT positive oligoclonal bands, which are also present in the serum, suggesting systemic inflammation as well as intrathecal synthesis.
This is not diagnostic of Multiple Sclerosis in isolation. HOWEVER, the vasculitis screen that was requested is clearly indicated.....................

I have had various bloods taken for Lupus, Rheumatiod Arthritis etc etc, and awaiting the results, however does anyone have any idea what the neuro is thinking or saying here.
thanks ...

Dear topsy, I'm just a patient with zero professional knowledge. But I *think* your neuro is saying that some aspects of your spinal tap came back normal for CNS vasculitis---BUT that another, the oligoclonal bands, are suggestive of "something" which can't yet be determined one way or another. And that he's awaiting MORE results to arrive (the "vasculitis screen", etc.)

Maybe you can find more on the terms he used, by using the search box above for CNS vasculitis. Better yet, can you go talk to your neurologist, by phone or during your next appointment? When do you see him next? I hope your other results come back quickly & that they provide the clarity you & your doctors need. Meanwhile, thinking of you & sending my best wishes, Vee
