View Full Version : Teenager in diapers

Hi. My daughter has a 13 year old friend who wears pull-ups all day, not just at night. She says she has "uncontrollable bladder" and that's why she wears the pull-ups. I've never heard of uncontrollable bladder (except in older people, of course) and wonder how long her parents will allow her to wear diapers until they get her on some type of medication. She doesn't seem embarrassed or concerned about it, which I also think is a little strange.

Can anyone fill me in on this condition and when, or if, it goes away?

Thanks!

Not sure if this is the same thing that my friend (now 40) has but it sounds the same and really isn't likely something her parents aren't dealing with (well maybe, guess depends on the parents). It isn't something that meds or surgery will fix in all cases.
For my friend, she wore diapers through most of her childhood as pullups didn't exist. She was one meds but they often made it worse. When she was a teenager she had surgery and that worked for a few months (not entirely but she was able to just wear a thick pad). But then she had a growth spurt and regressed drastically and was quite unwell. Eventually things evened out and by 20 or so she was wearing depend pads all the time but not having to worry too much unless she got sick (or drank too much!!!). I think she may have had spina bifida or some type of spinal cord abnormality as she walked with a bit of a limp and had poor circulation...I never asked her about this though.
I would highly doubt this is something that her parents have never sought medical help for. Hopefully she is able to keep herself clean as bladder infections were something my friend dealt with a lot too.

I'm glad this girl isn't embarrassed by this. Or at least isn't acting like she is. It must be very difficult for her.

I'm praying you and your daughter will accept her for who she is and not worry about her medical problem. I'm sure her parents worry enough :)

My daughter has a similar problem, she's 15.
She wears diapers, not pull ups though. I found it was easier and faster to get a diaper off of her than to do have to take her pants off as with pull ups.
My daughter is also quite comfortable with the fact she wears diapers. She's worn them for as long as she can remember so she has no reason to be embarrassed by them. The majority of her close friends have known for a long time an accept it, much like your daughter accepts her friend.
