so, ds is 6 months old.

We decided to try some rice cereal, 1x a day. This led to a case of serious constipation. BTW, as an aside, the magic bullets work really well and are easy, not as scary as I feared.

So, since oatmeal has more fiber, we decided oatmeal was worth a try, 1 serving a day...this time he has awful gas (i mean painful, smelly, gurgling tummy) and a mild case of constipation. Maybe the constipation was less severe because we caught it earlier?

He is taking fruits and veggies just fine (hates prunes though) 1 seving a day.

So, do you think this is Celiac's or just an undeveloped tummy, or something else?

Any help is much appreciated! tia.

have you isolated the cereal as the problem? Meaning, are you only giving him the cereal and formula/breastmilk for several days (no fruit and veggies)?

we did it in the reverse, fruits and veggies only & no cereal, problems went away immediately (stopped cereal, and ds was pooping every other day as opposed to barely 1x a week)
1 8oz feeding of formula @ night & rest is expressed breastmilk.

What are magic bullets? Ds had major tummy problems with cereal too so we barely gave him any at all and we mixed prunes in with it. Yours probably wouldn't eat that though since he doesn't like prunes. We then slowly increased the amount and his tummy has slowly adjusted. It has taken a very long time though. A nurse told us to buy barley cereal and that would help with constipation even more than oatmeal. I haven't been able to find it at any stores so I don't know how well it works. They don't have to have cereal though. If he is happy on fruits and veggies then I would keep it at that and maybe wait even longer to give it and give his tummy more time to mature.

thanks...we've got some barley, but i'm a little gun shy now. i guess we'll wait another month or so. the magic bullets are the glycerine suppositories.......poor thing was REALLY backed up.
