i just read also on internet that the time use for antacids and ppi's was 4-8 weeks and there is a reason. it said, "long term use can cause body to produce an extra amount of the hormone called gastrin. gastrin is the substance that tells your stomach to make more acid. there are gastrin receptors on the esphogeal, pancreatic, and gastric cancer cells, and over-production of gastin can casue these cancer cells to grow too large, thus greatly increasing the risk of getting cancer in these areas. so in another words, if you take ppi's for longer than 8 weeks it can cause your stomach to make more acid. just what we need :blob_fire

ah teacher. Thats the whole conundrum of it all! PPIs help so many people but cause problems in the process. Although, PPIs just stopped working for me(maybe my problem is no longer too much stomach acid. Currently having tests, doctor visits to get my body back on track)! I can tell you that 4-8 weeks of PPIs does not work for most people. Hopefully, science will find a better treatment in the near future, short of surgery. If I was a researcher I would work for a way to naturally make the esophageal lining stronger and more protected!
