I've been taking my fasting blood test in the mornings the past few weeks and they have been between 107-116 with a few lower. I went in for a A1c test and just found out the results.
Lab range is 4.5-6.0%
Mine was 5.8
So is this pre-diabetic or not?
I do have an appt. on Friday to see the Dr. but I am so curious to see if it is or not. I don't have the results of my fasting test at the lab that morning yet.

That looks like pre-diabetes to me.

I was wondering because someone told me as long as it was below 7 it was ok.

Below 7 is where a person with diabetes already should endeavor to remain.
Even though you will find this termed the "non-diabetic" range.

So do you agree this is diabetes with my numbers tfkeel?

Your fasting numbers indicate prediabetes. They should be below 100. You should test once in a while 2 hours after you eat. This will show you how well you handle carbs. This number should be below 140.
Good luck.

According to the Dr.
I do not have pre-diabetes On the cusp and called hyperglycemic. ???
He is more worried about my LDL cholesterol. I don't know how I can eat a more healthy diet than I am now. But he said statins down the road if it gets any worse NO, NO, NO, so....more exercise, I'm cutting carbs, bought some red yeast rice (Dr. recommended :duno: ) more exercise!!!
Good news!!

Just Take care & Stop Worries. The Medical Check up is only Right Answer & due Precautions & care is the only Solution. So Do whats essential & Shout not to be more Stressed. You can take care of Pre or Presence of Diabetic Symptons and take the Care more Honestly. Do not have Tension either way & "Takecare"

So basically you are a few steps away from full blown pre or not so pre diabetes... If I were you I would be testing after meals, seriously cutting back on starches and sugars (and if you are already I would be even more concerned about my numbers) No white food except for cauliflower....... Your doc might be worried about your LDL, but diabetes is the biggest risk factor for heart disease... My doctor aims for under 6 as an A1c in her patients..mine was 5.4 when I was diagnosed my fasting bg was 105..that was 3 yrs ago..on the basis of those tests I would not be near a diabetic...I am on insulin now to control my after meal spikes which would run into the 12-14 range...Hyperglycemia results in loss of beta cells and insulin deficiency eventually...see this as a gift and get a grip on it now.. As Cora says, test after meals and see what happens...
Good luck

BTW I forgot to mention my A1c was 5.8.
I am following a very Low carb diet now.
I am exercising at least 39 min. a day, either walking or my recumbent bike.
I didn't test for 5 days so I would stress over it.
The last 2 days, my results were 117 and 112.
I don't understand how my A1c test could be low but my fasting levels higher.
I will test 2 hours after a meal and see what happens. Any meal or one with some carbs? I'm eating very few carbs now.
I had cut out the sugar way before Christmas but I was eating popcorn a lot but not now.
I don't go back for 6 months. If my results continue to be that high, do you think I should be calling my Dr. sooner?
